OSX 10.11 ending (not just Windows 7)
Same issue the Windows 7 users are having. I have a Mac with OSX 10.11. In a month I will no longer be able to use Steam, due to Google Chrome or something. I am required to upgrade my OS if I want to use Steam. I am getting tired of Google killing applications that I use, Steam isn't the only one. I don't even use Google, nor have any desire to. The other problem: Apple also wants me to buy a new computer, and will not allow my computer to be upgraded any further. At least my computer still works though.

I have games I have purchased but never have been able to play due to life. But I finally was able to come back, just to be told I have a month left, and then I lose access to my games, unless I go out and buy a new computer that I can not afford to buy.

If this is just about security, I can worry about my own computer's security. I don't need Google demanding money for my security when I want nothing to do with Google. I realize the issue is Google and not Steam, but steam is allowing Google to take away our ability to play games we paid for.

Steam: why not just allow those on the current version of Steam to continue using the current version? People have many reasons for not upgrading their OS. Why force them to upgrade when it may not even be possible?

Apple is and is not good for gaming, just depends on the game. And I don't buy much of the security stuff. I've not had any viruses, malware, spyware, security issues in 15+ years. I think it's just an excuse to make you update.

State actors frequently use Windows, MacOS and iOS exploits to find, track, monitor and interrogate dissidents, journalists, etc. Just because you're not worth blowing a day-0 exploit on, does not mean this is not a very extremely serious issue for people.

I didn't say it isn't possible. But being forced to constantly update seems intrusive. Especially when that updating forces you to give them more money. It should be my choice. Google does not own the internet despite what they wish for.

This is part of why I have suggested an all encompassing verification-only launcher. The same thing will happen to Win 10 ere long too. A background verification launcher would fix all these issues and future proof it as well.

Shouldn't be too hard, just say future purchases aren't allowed or something.

What Mac do you have (model and year)? Some officially unsupported Macs can be upgraded to newer versions of macOS. It's pretty simple and doesn't cause problems. Of course, if you have a not very, very old Mac.

2008 Pro. OSX 10.11 even has a few problems running on it despite Apple saying it works and allowing it to run. Some of the hardware doesn't work when using 10.11, so I wouldn't want to try a newer unsupported OS.

Oh, then you won't be able to upgrade to the latest versions of macOS :/ This is really very old hardware. I have iMac 2008. OS X 10.11 is the latest version of the OS it officially supports. But I updated it to OS X 10.13 using a patched disk image. Everything works quite well (BUT I had to replace the HDD with an SSD first). You can check the forums at macrumors.com for threads with detailed instructions, possible problems, etc.
Yes, I can assume that my iMac 2008 works fine, BUT only if you do not compare it with modern hardware. Because when I work on a modern computer, I feel a huge difference in performance. Seriously, iMac 2008 is just C2D, 4GB Ram, 256MB VRAM. Yes, it's sad, but I don't blame Apple, Google, Valve for ending support. This is really very, very old hardware.

You can't add a fancy store front to that though can you?
Tech is moving on ..

Mine is still strong despite being old. 64gb RAM, 1024mb VRAM, 2x3.2 ghz. It's a capable computer other than Apple just saying it's no longer good, causing other software companies to also ditch it.
Wow, those four Mac gamers are really in a pickle now...

That's the point of using Apple products though - you always buy the latest hardware if you want to keep using them.

Steam will require support for OS X 10.13, while Google Chrome will require OS X 10.15.
You can try to update to 10.13, or immediately to 10.15.
Instructions:
OS X 10.13 -- http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/
OS X 10.15 -- https://dosdude1.com/catalina/

Curious, is that a Mac Pro, please? :)

Sounds great with the 64 GB RAM, and dual CPUs - but the videoRAM seems too low to me?
Is it CPU built-in, i.e. integrated GPU?

You can still play them if you want but not trough steam since it upgrades itself.

How's that even possible?
