For anyone who has this type of issue, just re-start Steam. It'll fix that for a bit until it occurs again.

While i'm here may as well say you can use the old UI if you don't want this for now.

Make shortcut of Steam > Right Click the Shortcut (Properties) > In target field, add a space then -vgui > Apply > Run shortcut.

Yes - but it happens so often for me.. pretty much every time I do something / every day I get some variation on this black bar error at the top

Yes, sometimes other functions like "view game servers" break and i restart Steam to fix that.

I edited my above post to add info on how to get the previous UI temporarily.

This is probably the best workaround for now until all of these issues get fixed.

Thanks didn't realise it was so easy to revert! I have steam set to auto startup on OS load. Any way to get it to load with -vgui for that?

This should be patched in the beta so, soon-ish in the stable branch.

But will they patch the 1GB+ memory usage ? Not so sure about that!
Also the 'view players' and 'view servers' settings aren't so good in the new version GUI, and other things that are a bit more nerfed now kind of sucks.

I'm fairly certain they've gotten enough reports about these issues. No ETA but soon.

None of the above fixes anything on my steam so hopefully they patch it soon.

Latest issue for me, can't reposition the client window. No issues when I use the old version with -vgui setting. Since I have set to autostart with windows, I'm having to exit and restart with the command line variable in order to get a working client.

Does -vgui not work for you? What OS are you on? Did you restart Steam after applying it?

No it did not work for me and I’m on windows 11 pro. I restarted it after I did it as well.

Hey everyone - sorry for resurrecting an older thread but I had this problem due to a "beta" for a game that had a specific timed testing period being revoked from my account when the testing period ended. Apparently steam has a special pop-up when the ability to play a game is revoked from your account. My steam deck didn't like this pop-up apparently, which needs to be loaded and clicked. I was able to load the steam deck into desktop mode and run the steam client and the pop-up loaded fine and I was able to clear it. I then went back to the normal SteamDeck mode and everything was fine.

Sorry if this is confusing but this is how I fixed this problem. Hope this helps some.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
