15%
Isn't the percentage for transactions related to the trading platform too high?
Valve takes 5% and Dota 2 takes another 10%.
Given that Dota 2 is owned by Valve, I don't quite get the logic.

And it's very simple, none of the most expensive transactions were carried out through Steam.

You might want to check your assumptions with reality.

But aside from that "losing out" on a $2,000 transaction means nothing compared to a hundred thousands $2 transactions. People are going to look for ways to dodge the system no matter what. Thinking Valve needs less common high value transactions for the market to be profitable is grossly uninformed.

Even if there were no ceiling on prices, no one would lose 15% of a million dollars.

Well except for people who already learned a hard lesson. Or weren't so greedy to gamble on 0% or 100% as opposed to a guaranteed 85%.

Running all your arguments solely through what you would do or can imagine may not be the big brain reasoning you think it is.

You can do as you wish. 3rd party sites are use-at-your-own-risk. People will always say "I did nothing, my account got hacked" even when their profiles are actively advertising a known scam site. If someone do manage to hack Valve's database, we would see it in news.

That is only proving, that he lost inventory. Not that Valve's database were breached.

Guaranteed 85% which can not be put anywhere, which is why Anomaly, ohnePixel and the like use the Steam platform to buy keys or some small thing.

I understand that many transactions worth $1 each is not a small number.
But I would like to buy and sell on the Steam marketplace that costs more than $ 1.
None of the expensive skins that I had in my inventory were purchased using the Steam marketplace because I don't want to spend money on high commission.

"When someone asked how a Steam account can be hacked so easily, Twitter user quyy112 said Support itself will give a hacker access if they go through a simple method. Knowing it was possibly so easy to get into someone's Steam account, especially an account like HFB's, left many Counter-Strike players disturbed."
"For now, the CSGO community is demanding that Valve take action and return the skins to HFB. Others want Valve to take it a step further and change how the company handles Steam account security in general. The fact that a prominent skin collector like HFB can have this happen without any way of getting the collection back has Counter-Strike skin collectors worried and frustrated. "

So your issue isn't the 15%, it's that you don't like store credit. Well, I'm not sure what to tell you. I personally don't have delusions from trying to profit off the community market, so store credit doesn't fuss me.

It's Valve's system, if you don't like the rules, don't use it. Do whatever you want at your own risk, no sympathy from me.

No one is stopping you.

You're paying for the price of the item, the seller pays Valve's cut. I somehow don't think expensive items are 15% cheaper on 3rd party sites.

And if your argument is some kinda of weird morality/principle of the matter, well you can feel strongly about it. But sometimes our personal beliefs just don't matter to the rest of the world.

I wouldn't hold my breath that Valve is going to change their percentage because you don't like 15% on expensive Dota2 items.

"Hacker" had to provide evidences, that only account owner can have access to. And some "twitter user" is not a good source of information.
Trading is dangerous for your inventory and your sanity, don't engage in trading and you won't have any 15% to worry about.

also you are better off obtaining non online function games, ones that don't require login to 3rd party companys online to play them, if they are online games you don't really have a choice, but steam sells a number of off line games they put behind online login walls

don't purchase those the likelyness that you will lose those games in the furture is very high.

I hope they will reduce the commission because third-party marketplaces take a 5% commission and you get cash at the same time.
It turns out that Valve deliberately makes their trading platform unprofitable, a strange decision.

They wont do that, as the commission is not there to make money (they do that already when someone is buying wallet credits) but to lower the whole wallet credits which are already in the system.
