I did hear Disney is having some financial issues so this might be a great source of revenue for them.

Read it was a simple comment by the dev or nomura and spread around to be more than what was a simple comment, or at least I read in passing that was the case.
I think it will eventually come. The talks of Epic helping square certainly happened, but from what I've seen, it wasn't like Epic published it or anything. Even so, the other games are made with unreal. I think the most likely case of it not coming to steam is Square didn't like the sales (that is square's MO after all) and they decided to just not bother anymore. It would make sense given the stupidly high pricing plan, and I'll be pretty miffed if it comes to steam at $60 each. But this is counter the idea of what's happened elsewhere. Square has brought a lot of small games to steam. And I think, long term, so long as steam continues doing things they way they have with steam deck and just all around good PR, I think it's inevitable that KH will come to steam. I mean, for christ's sake, Blizzard is bringing games to steam. The short lived 2nd era of PC store exclusivity that Epic championed is all but dead. Oddly enough, the bastions from the first era when Origin and whatnot came back are even transferring. Sony is bringing games to steam, Blizzard. I'm glad to see New Epic exclusivities, if they even still exist, are notably few and unremarkable games. That store can eat a fat one. Looking back on the past 10 years, the steam deck shows Valve's understanding that, to continue to be the top, it's not just being a good store that's required. It's good consumer centric practices and become a platform. While I'm hesitant to support platformization, the way valve is doing it is right, at least for now. When the consumer is happy, and the Devs are happy, money is made all around. Sure, it's a 30% cut, but, as valve's services have continued to expand and with their successful foray into hardware, it's becoming more clear that, when you pay more, you get more. Even better would be to see the console companies that see the benefit of steam to realize they can apply these practices, even if just part way, on their own. Focus more on genuine customer satisfaction.
But all told, given the increased interest in steam, even from Square enix themselves, I feel like it's not a lack of desire to come to steam keeping KH on Epic, and I don't believe it's a ridiculously long or even permanent exclusivity deal either. My most favorable theory is the idea that they are busy with other games and/or optimizing for steam deck.
