you are right.
It's using 910.12 Mb in my system, dayum!!!!
Menu > Steam > Settings > Library > Enable the following then reboot Steam.

Low Bandwidth Mode

Low Performance Mode

Disable Community Content

Steam uses 450+mb on my PC with these settings on.
Because the update is terrible and they are now using chrome more than ever in their ui

Same here.
Switching all the fancy stuff off gets you down to ~500 MB idle.

If you then also use the -vgui launch parameter to revert to the old UI (while you still can...) you should see something around 250~300 MB idle consumption.

Edit: no browser mode still uses 500mb of ram cool :steamhappy:
There is no no-browser mode anymore.
Valve axed it.

I have everything on and it will go from 1GB to 850MB to 550MB varying. Using mouse to do anything on Steam client causes a spike. At rest while gaming it stays at 550MB and nothing is turned off. NOTHING.

I hate when people spread misinformation w/o testing fully their "fixes".

Maybe just to gain popularity, but those functions do ♥♥♥♥ for performance/RAM usage.

Steam SmallMode is the ONLY way to drop RAM usage.

Everything on? As in not enabled? Those settings OFF literally increase ram usage.

Without fully testing their fixes? I have literally had those settings ON all this time and have tested every change in beta because i am always on the beta.

Yes, everything is on here and sticking at 550MB. Oops I moved the cursor, now its at 650MB. But still I see 550MB w/o turning anything off. Maybe my system is special.

Those settings need to be OFF.

Mouse spike? Zero issues with mouse on my PC. Tested with a Razer Naga X and a Corsair Scimitar Pro.

no, they need to be on, as per mention in a comment above and also said settings are put there to be turned on and reduce resource usage.

ie... ON- circle right and blue color in bar and OFF- circle left greyish black in bar.

now with that being said, the client is a broken mess, they are over here putting "we fixed this random issue" in update news, yet nothing is actually getting fixed, sometimes the stuff works and randomly it goes back to not working properly.

Steam use more Resources because of Animated Avatars, Profile BG's and Avatar Frames.
You can turn them of too, but this made Steam look bad and 700 MB is not so muchwith the actual Ram Standard of 16-32 gb.
