Steam is now selling erotic games to children openly?
Visual Novel section was always a pain on Steam and there are so many erotic games which bypass mature, adult content filters. I already filtered Visual Novel section. They put women pictures with huge boobs, mini skirts to their games and sell these garbage games to children. They are all about sex.

Now they arranged a Visual Novel week and they are spreading some erotic stickers. You get a pink background erotic boy, woman pictures permanently to your account.

What a shame.

I clicked it and got some anime guy avatar. Changed my avatar to it. What exactly is that expression?
"Why the heck is my hair blue?!"
or
"What the fudge am i doing here?!"
or
"I dropped my pen right here, where did it go?!"
or
"Eureka!", then looking down and "Someone, bring me a towel!"

visual novels are mostly trash but money talks and Gabe listens
He isn't listening too much because Valve only gets 30%, that other 70% goes to developers and publishers.
30% of something that they can just sit back while doing nothing is a really good deal. I'd love to be in Valves position where a developer does all the work and I get a 30% cut.

You need to be 18 to buy those games.

Except Valve have no age checks to prevent people from buying age-inappropriate games. In fact, in that respect, they are blatantly disregarding Japanese law by allowing the purchase of CERO Z rated (adult only) games using wallet funds. Such games are, legally, only supposed to be purchasable online with credit cards -- as that is the system Japan uses for age checking.

Which brings us to the OPs rant, children in many countries wanting to get their hands on age-inappropriate content aren't looking for visual novels with cartoon style drawings, they've looking for western games such as GTA and the full blown nudity and violence of those games. Funny that the OP isn't complaining about how those are readily sold on Steam....

Same here in Germany. Difference is that the German government actually complained to Valve and demanded the use of a verifiable age check system like its used in Germany for adult online purchases.
But instead of doing that Valve decided to just remove all adult games from the German store and they can no longer be bought here.
If more countries would complain like Japan in your example, maybe Valve would actually get off their butt and do something.

visual novel is all about sex...... yeah......

I know this is bait, but I can't help myself.

All visual novel tagged games are not visual novel. Developers do not add it, community add this tag to troll. Some people actually know this situation and they add this to filter/troll some games. They even added Visual Novel tag to Fifa 23, Call of Duty, etc.

the game you tag is literal visual novel. Already have it and play it.

Oh yeah. Valve just has a platform with 125 million active accounts. Those active accounts then buy games.

Valve isn't evil. All you have to do is look at the facts. Both Ubisoft and EA both left and now are back. Why? Because they know how big this platform is. More users equals a bigger chance to make more money. Even Blizzard is finally coming here.

This game I have played cannot be comparable to mainstream Japanese visual novel garbage games. You can call almost every point & click game "visual novel" But this is not something actually used for.

Ubisoft actually has not returned. They put their 1+ year old games here. The latest ones won't be released on Steam on day 1.

EA is making bad games in the last 10 years. They are losing their customers. So they want to make some extra money. Their platform also wasn't popular.

Whether you think the games are bad or not is irrelevant. The point is, they came back after leaving.

It's a little more complicated for Japan. CERO cannot actually complain with any legal weight behind them. As, technically, they don't even have authority over ratings for PC games. That's actually meant to be handled by another ratings agency entirely (EOCS), one Valve have never recognised. But, as companies do still specifically submit PC builds to CERO, they rate them when they shouldn't. This is why, legally, games can be sold uncut on PC in Japan where they'd have to follow the CERO demands for censorship on any other system (most famous example being Dead Space, as a publicity stunt claimed the game was "banned in Japan" when that has never been true). Occasionally, CERO complain about this loophole when a publisher still displays the CERO Z rating, but all that ends up doing is having the CERO rating removed from the store page. So if CERO complained to Valve that they're breaking Japanese law by bypassing the age check for CERO Z purchases, all that will happen is that more CERO Z ratings will no longer be displayed on Steam store pages. Plus, many of those ratings aren't legitimate anyway, as Valve don't check whether a developer has actually submitted their games to CERO for rating.

If Valve sold console games, it'd be an entirely different matter, one that could have seen Valve slapped with a 6 month trading ban in Japan. Which is probably why it's a good thing the Steam Deck isn't recognised as a console here =)
Cause it's a company and societies job to raise people's kid cause personal responsibility is so 1980's.
is steam working with educators to create
positive environments for all its customers...

duty of care and all...

steam is not the primary care giver...
- isnt that where the responsibility remains...
