A user can prevent you from commenting on their public review by blocking you?
So, there was a pretty well detailed review I saw that allowed comments. It was in the "most helpful" section so a lot of people can see it. They seemed pretty reasonable, but I disagreed with a small portion of their review, and made a comment about it. I assumed that because they allowed comments, they were open for discussion.

They then responded with a counterpoint, called me an idiot and a failure and then blocked me. Now, I have no intention of engaging with this individual and responding to the harassment, I just want to respond to their counterargument for other people to see and leave it at that, I don't care at all that they can't see my messages anymore or anything. I just wanted to bring up something for others reading that I thought was a reasonable point. But it seems the system allows for them to "own" you and then prevent you from responding. That seems really lame and basically pretty exploitative if you can just allow comments on your reviews, then someone replies and then you reply & block somebody before they get a chance to reply, ensuring you always have the last word on a public review. It also stops the blocked person from replying to anyone else that replied to them in that same discussion.

I was doing some testing and they didn't just disable comments, because that hides ALL comments, including the ones you yourself make. So them blocking me is the only possible explanation I have for the reason why I no longer have the option to reply.

Yes. A user who blocks direct communication with you prevents you from said direct communication on their content.

This is intended behavior of the blocking function.

That seems VERY abusable.
Yep, that’s how it works :lunar2019piginablanket: best course of action is just to forget about the individual and move on

It's not really. If they don't want tmyou to contact them through their content, this is how it's done.

In theory, yes, but think about it. I can't address their counterpoint, I can't address ANYONE ELSE IN THAT SAME THREAD? MY COMMENTS ARE STILL THERE! The only interaction I now have in that PUBLIC review is to delete the comments I made there previously.

Their review is not a place to debate right or wrong.

If you agree with the review, you give it a thumbs up.

If you don't, thumb it down and move on.

If you want to talk with someone, invite them as a friend and take it to a chat.

They can also disable public comments at anytime they like if they want to. No one is entitled to be able to endlessly comment on their reviews, artwork etc.
If you think that's bad say something objectively negative about a certain game in ANY thread of that game on Steam and the SAME "moderator" will accuse you of leaving a review, tell you to leave your review in that section of Discussions and delete your posts. And you cannot contact this "moderator" in any way to ask them to explain how FEEDBACK on a game is somehow a 'review.'

(And its one of the most popular games on Steam for nearly the last 7 years - still has more than 65,000 daily players. It just has a horrible history of crashing repeatedly, corrupting save files and being generally unstable. Its fun when it does work but infuriating when it crashes which is OFTEN. Have you figured out which AAA title I'm talking about yet? Hint: It was released in 2016.))
It seems like you may have gotten a bit fiesty and the user doesn't want that type of thing on their content.

It's best to move on.

They can disable public comments, but as stated in the OP this hides their comments as well, including their counterpoint and their insults. I honestly would have preferred they do that.

They were nice enough to turn the comments on (default for reviews is off) but if you irritate someone, they have every right to block you from posting on their content.

Let it go. Don't live rent free.

I'm sorry I irritated them? I'm not really one to get mean/fiesty in online discussions. I just want to respond to their counterpoint is all, for others to see. I don't really mind if they want nothing to do with me, I just wanted to partake in that discussion.

Imagine if, since this is my post, I just wordlessly blocked you. After typing out this response to you. And now, you're no longer able to reply to my comment here, and your only interaction with the comments you already made here would be to delete them. Does this seem reasonable to you?

you can write your own review... that is the balance....

Yes.

But that's the good part of the forums which are not your own content but rather the community's.

:summercat2023:
In my experience when people comment on my reviews about 60% of them are personal attacks, and 40% of them are people who actually want to have a reasonable discussion or comment on their personal experience.

The other day 2 users tried to attack me for posting a negative review on a terrible game, saying things like I didn't have achievements (which the game didn't have at the time of the review but they didn't look that up), as well as not playing on the correct difficulty, even though in the context of the review I was describing features that were correct for the mode. They also said the game had positive reviews, except many of them were from new steam accounts.

Unfortunately even when you prove people wrong 3 times, they will still come after you because of their ego, which is why that block feature has a good purpose.
