Microsoft account needed for Flight Simulator ?

Just purchase Microsoft Flight Simulator hoping that I could play this game with my granddaughter.
But looks like Microsoft needs to add to my dossier and insists that I login with an email account, which I do not want to. It's frankly none of their business.
So...can I run my purchased Flight Simulator without having to log into Microsoft ?

As the publisher and IP-holder of the game, they can require an account. If you don't like that, refund the game.

It downloads the launcher on Steam. You then need to log into your MS account to download the game and play it.

Last game I played that did that had a subpar downloader (counting steam as par). That was just adding salt to the bit where such practices means that the game isn't ready when steam thinks it is, nor do I believe that steam could be used to verify game file integrity.

I just find the whole idea degrading to the game and steam.

Yes. It needs an xbox live / ms store account, which is usually the same like your MS one.
Otherwise game won't start or install
