Apply for a job at Valve and work on Steam.

As far as I know, the only workaround is to restart the client until it's fixed.

Well, not a fix, but i have the Omen Gaming Hub now running on my Laptop, and some boost option is freeing up RAM every time i start a game...

May be there's a similar tool for your PC?

This... But to elaborate: The mem leak is cause by a fault in the app's code. AFAIK, Valve frowns upon others modifying their app's code, with vigor. So the ball is in their court, assuming they know the leak is still there.

The "leak" is the chromium embedded framework and people having arbitrary opinions about RAM usage for browsers, which they've been whining about for over twenty years and crying memory leak.

If RAM usage climbs, and and climbs to no end except there is no more RAM to be had and the app start crumbling down, then it is certainly a problem.

Well that's not what I'm seeing people complain about. People just don't like the RAM being used and claim it's a memory leak because it's more than they're used to seeing, not that it increases perpetually until their system crashes.

I'm not seeing people posting a timelines where Steam will use multiple GB's, or tens of GB if left running long enough. So... not a memory leak by the way I figure it.

I've also seen RAM usage go up and down without restarting. You wouldn't expect a memory leak to result in less RAM usage over time. That would see to be quite counter-intuitive to the claim of a memory leak.

It is exactly what I brought up, on this forum, when the update intially dropped, as that is what happened on my end. Looked like others may have had the issue too.

Now, personally, I haven't seen it happen lately, but I don't think personal experience alone would be enough to rule the issue as "completely patched".

except thats literally what is happening lmao. the ram usage simply keeps going up until i restart it. it doesnt go up and down, only up. if you seriously think thats not a memory leak then idk what to say your trolling. even if it wasnt a memory leak, its still undesirable, especially compared to steams previous memory usage before this update.

Steam is nothing more than a reskinned web browser that Valve has bloated over the years.. we'd probably all be better off if we didn't need Steam installed and could do most of what the client can do (launch games, activate them, etc..) When that is possible, I don't think i'd ever use the client again.

Valve is too busy running to the bank collecting their 30% cut from developers than to hire a bunch of engineers to build a client that isn't just a skinned browser. What exactly has Valve done in the last 20+ years?

I think the only way to fix it is to use Humble Bundle.
