Free games?

From reading game reviews, I notice that many people receive the game for free. How are they able to do that? Seems unfair to me!

Many of them don't. It's a box that you can tick when making a review. It doesn't have anything to do with the truth since it's something that the person can choose even if they bought the game.

1. It is an optional check box anyone can check for any reason.

2. So get promotional keys for various reasons. ie... Streamers, reviewers, curators...

It's just a checkbox anyone can click then leaving a review.

And free means something different for everyone
Could have got it with a GPU purchase
Friend could have gifted it to them
Could have been a free to keep promotion

Or they may have bought it and still just clicked the checkbox.

Developers are free to give their game to whomever they choose.

Devs do give games away for free from time to time. For example, a few months ago Metro Last Light was free to grab for a few days.
