Linux is not a viable Gaming OS, yet, if it will ever be.
Stop suggesting that out of want for more people to use it.
Unless you get game developers to write for Linux, it won't happen.
Yes, I'll get replies from all those people that say "but muh distro version of Linux runs 90% of games". Yes, 90% of the games you like to play, excuse me if I no longer play 4bit, 2D, scrolling or static screen games.
I would love to game on Linux, I love it for everything else it does well. However, the developers are not willing to unite and write a Kernel that does Driver Building. What I mean by that is Not to have to DL an AMD Driver or Asus Chipset, but to have the current Kernel run basic & then start building drivers for EVERYTHING. Detect device, run min.-max. & specs. optimize settings when driver complete. Kind of like an expert level Auto-Installer, not even A.I., systematically going through everything detected. Then and only then Linux will run to Hardware Specs..
After that we need to get the developers on board to run more and more Linux compatible games, while we phase out Windows compatible games. THAT is how you phase out Microsoft.
They already lost the Cellphone OS battle.

I just played Red Dead Redepmtion on the steam deck ... so it's just not about 2D games and the performances under proton are as good then native windows.

the only games that don't work are usually because of zealous DRM and anti-cheats.

it's not that Linux can't , it's mostly how it's perceived by the public but something like Steam deck and steam OS prove you can have an easy to use interface on a linux oriented device.

even on desktop mode steam OS has a app store that is not harder to use then google play , click install , play and it's work.

The issue is that many games can't work on Linux. Like many games with their own launchers will fail when you try to play them with Proton. I can't play DFO on my test machine, for example.

https://www.protondb.com/app/495910

Even if you get the game going, the anti-cheat will eventually auto-ban you, as mentioned in the comments.
It's not quite there yet, but thanks to Proton and the portable SteamDeck, Linux gaming made some HUGE steps in the right direction in a suprisingly short time.

These days, even AAA titles not only launch, but advertise being SteamDeck verified.
An AAA title advertising Linux compatibility two years ago? Pretty much unheard of.

While i wish more titles would run natively on Linux and not through Proton/WINE, i still think this is an important step for more acceptance of Linux as a gaming platform.

Try actually reading:

The game runs and plays well, but its anticheat will consider you as a bot and does everything to stop you from playing. Even with a ban.

As per Neople's "Terms and Conditions," Proton is considered a Third-Party Software, this means the anticheat will stop you from playing by any means. The community has also agreed to avoid the official Steam version of Dungeon Fighter, as new players through Steam have been targeted and banned by the anticheat.

An excerpt from literally the second post on that page I linked.

2 Months ago:
"Installs:Yes
Opens:Yes
Starts Play:No"

And as far as I know, DFO did not change their ToS.

What you are referencing is a single post, and that specific post you are referencing even says, and I quote, "this might change in the future to unplayable again."

I have read this page thoroughly.

You know people spend literally thousands of dollars on these games, right? The staff for DFO consider it 3rd party software and the ToS say they will ban you for using it. There are multiple accounts of it giving people issue.

I spent like $500 on the game. I would not risk that over a chance of getting banned just to play on Linux.
Haven't read something ridiculous like this in long time again from op.

I can't get certain games I want to play to run on Linux, therefore Linux isn't a viable OS for gaming. Nevermind all the countless games that do run fine. I'll just lump those in as "4 bit ,2d scrolling, static screen games" to make my false argument sound better.

It's a bit like saying Playstation isn't a viable console for gaming because you want to play Halo.
The truth always hurts to some. Linux is not a viable OS for gaming and won't be one in the foreseeable future.

As soon as anticheats like eac etc start working on Linux then it wouldn't matter if it is window or Linux.

There is a reason why most anticheats don't work under linux. Sadly support for anti cheats isn't going to happen anytime soon.
