Questing regarding Windows 7 vs. 10 game compatibility

I don't wish to start a flame war, merely asking a genuine question. I have non-steam games as well (Lords of the Realm from 1994, run on DOSbox. Might and Magic 6 from 1998 run normally, Oregon Trail 2 from 1996, runs normally with a little tweaking, to name a few). I know having the original OS, or an OS that is newer than the original, but still closer than brand new, could help in playability. Will I lose the ability to play any games if I make the switch from Windows 7 to 10? If not, I could download 10 on this system.. If I could, I could make a new machine. Thanks!

you do know that, not only hardware, drivers, other software, OS settings and/or the OS environment, pc configuration and setup (different types of hardware in each pc), including the games own coding, optimization and compatibility, game mods, ect... can all cause issues with games?

knowing all that and still claiming the user is to blame

anywho, stating all games run on win 10 and 11 without issues or fiddling, is in fact false.

Hey, how about you try and prove your claims for once, I know you can't, but try. And 16 bit games is definitely an OS issue for sure, since most 64 bit operating systems removed native 16 bit support.

Yeah it's all hit or miss. I quite frankly don't understand the rationale of having to 'upgrade" to in fact downgrade to play these older games. I just wish Ge Force Now can bring them over, but as old as they are, never happen.

I wouldn't call minor tweaks on games that even had issues on Windows 7, as fiddling.

well you can get majority working with some fiddling, some may work without doing anything, there are likely some that just plain dont work and some may just not be as popular and dont get enough attention to find a solution to fixing them... yet.

doing anything to get a game running is basically fiddling with stuff to see what happens, or even scouring the internet to find solutions, then fiddling with said things and see what works..

I don't own Men of Valor but I could easily buy it for $2, even cheaper than Steam. You should know that the store page says that it supports both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10. If it supports Windows 10 there's a good chance that it is going to support Windows 11 as well.

Same thing goes for Elite Warriors: Vietnam

Mechwarrior 4 dont boot on all systems btw. It depends on the videocard. It detects mine as an unsupported card and I have to use dgVoodoo to spoof a generic one.

might try something like xpadder? basically allows use of a controller no matter if the game supports controller or not, though the experience isnt going to be amazing, but that also depends on the game.

DS4windows is another, not sure if either run both xbox and ps, including all the generics controllers though.

that being said, gog should have controller support?
