regarding windows 7
steam is a skinned chromium browser, so any move chromium makes (such as ditching windows 7), steam must also make. this is an incredibly reckless business decision as if chromium were to ditch other previously supported operating systems (linux, windows 10/11, etc.) then steam would have to do the same. this is a total misplay on steam's part.

his response suggests he did read what was written. how is a transfer going to brick your account?

how could the major transfer of millions of users from one system to another be a problem?

is that what you are asking?

if so, that was answered
steam has been been transferred before, your account remains unbricked. how would another transfer cause your account to brick?

again, read what we were talking about instead of just injecting your idea

seeing as how this was not about people staying on 7 but steam's mistake in using chromium

edit:or the belief it was a mistake

as mentioned i did read it, now explain to me how someone using win 7 and using an old version of steam is going to put your account at risk or "brick it".

i should not have to risk it because of a few people not wanting to upgrade or move

Ok, now go use version 114, let me know how that works out for you.

I don't want to use version 114. It does not work in Windows 7 and there is no extra benefit in using it.

I just pointed out Chromium let users download old versions and use it, so you can't blame Chromium for Steam's decision.

Steam is just practicing exclusion against the poor who can't afford a new computer, and those who don't want to see spam every minute in their screens. As simple as that.
Well for starters you already knew 109 is your last version for Windows 7, and no one said older version wouldn't work. Did you know version 116 is already in testing?
https://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/download-chromium/

By 2024 I think we be almost 7 ~ 10 updates out of date from 109 so yeah... And it keep getting more, and more out of date as time goes on.

Steam dropping W7/8 next year, despite this year already lost total support from both updates, and patches from root of both ends for MS, and Chrome, so yeah... If Steam isn't gonna use 109, then it means that support gonna be dropped for sure for Windows 7/8 because they're gonna use something newer, maybe 114, 115, or 116 in 2024, if they were gonna use 109, then means there a different reasons for dropping OS, because Steam has supported OS that has already ended EOL & EOS, such as Windows xp.

They can keep using old version if they wanted, nothing stopping them
if NOTHING is stopping them, then there should be NO PROBLEM with continuing to use it, correct?
AND THEY'RE CHOOSING TO CHANGE THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 7/8 WHAT IS UNCLEAR?

The call isn't yours to make, if they're dead set on doing this, what is unclear???

Clearly you didn't if I had to explain it.
"i never said this." is a perfectly valid response to "example example just to explain if you're somehow thinking this."
And I explain should read the whole thing, I didn't claim you said it, I said IF you're thinking that, that does not mean you said it, it meant if you had it in your head, your mind what you might be thinking, that why I said that.

i'm doing alright

need an xray after a fall, but otherwise fine

how is your day:riddle:
don't derail threads please

can you make a recommendation that steam could actually use?

moving off of chrome is not going to happen

it is here

they are going to stop support for 7 and 8 (and yes, eventually 10, 11 and so on)

what is your idea?

how far should valve go, how much should they spend, to keep people on win 7?

as i have said, that doesn't change the fact that it's a bad call, what are you confused about?

you said that because you thought it may have been what i was saying, and thus thinking. i clarified i did not say that. also, linking the word "if" in the dictionary may be seen as sarcastic and therefore rude. it may also be considered advertisement. try not to do that in the future.

it's not impossible to think a company like valve could make their own browser or at the very least find a suitable alternative to chrome. it certainly would not be uncharacteristic of them.

i already gave a suggestion, steam uses the old version before the UI update, forces said version into offline mode only, they can only use the library and play games, thats it... no update, no connection to the internet.

no support required, no money used to allow said suggestion and at best a tiny amount of time setting the code to lock said version into offline mode.

You can think it bad call, but that doesn't change anything, just like 2007, and 2018 when they drop windows multiple times.

Also wasn't trying be sarcastic, I link it because there enough time people actually don't understand what they say, or read, and I have to make it clear so can understand the context of the post, and there people that don't understand how anything works.

they already have, its called Steam OS. Its free for you to use

That's not gonna work, because Steam is first and foremost a DRM service. It doesn't allow people to stay in offline mode forever, but forces you to log in periodically. I have a friend who had no internet for a couple of years and he can't play anything from his library, because Steam doesn't even give him the option to start the program in offline mode, it forces the login screen.

then they can remove w/e bs they have in place to force "check-ins", not really a hard concept.

This is very easy to solve, just release a legacy version that uses 109.
If Chromium can do it (and they have dozens of different versions available) so can Steam.
But Steam don't want to do it, because they don't want us buying games from them.

As for 116, I'm not interested. No benefit, and it needs Windows 10, which means popups about "news and interests" spamming every minute in my screen. Like I said above, Chromium leaves the choice to the user.
