legacy steam support. or remove all old games.
oh valve... you are shooting yourselfs so bad with your recent drop of support.

tell me, valve, does this look like a game from win 10 era?

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, 128 MB RAM, 500MHz or faster, DirectX: 7.0

requirements from insaniquarium deluxe, a game you still sell on your platform, for unsupported hardware.

one of PLENTY of examples.

how the ♥♥♥♥ am i supposed to play on those hardware if steam just flips us the bird with old os support?

you still sell old asf games on your platform, but will not let us play those games on the OS it is REQUIRED to play them.

shame on you steam. how is this acceptable in any way is beyond me.
its borderline false advertisement, i tried to buy a few classic games that never worked on win 10, I NEED windows xp or older to play those classic games.
yet you are locking us behind win 10?

REMOVE ALL CLASSIC GAMES THEN!!! they DONT belong on your platform, valve.
if you cant play them remove them. or else, why even buy a product that will not work on a new win OS.

if you think ill keep buying games just so you block me from playing my games. why even bother with your service? im just about done with this bs.

develop a damn legacy steam client only made to run games.
i dont care about going on win 98 trying to buy a game, this is not what i want.

i want to be able to install steam on my old ass win xp machine, and run the old OG childhood games that literally CANNOT RUN ON WINDOWS 10!!!!!

if steam does not make some form of legacy client to keep supporting my purchases on the hardware it was meant to be played on, then i see no reason to keep buying games off of steam what so ever.

seriously consider what you are doing valve.
i promise you valve, you will loose a lot of fans because of this.

do the right thing for your customers. or deal with the outcome of loosing customers.

so, because you do not want to update,

we should not be able to get those games?
missing the point yet again....

games that dont work on win 10, i just go ♥♥♥♥ myself?

there are lots of reasons for wanting to play a game on old os. and not win 10.

steam selling us a game that we cant play, isnt that false advertisement?

you are happy with win10/win11 then good for you. there are still millions of pcs using win 7 on a daily basis, these machines still work flawlessly.

stopping me from using my account all for what? forcing me onto win 11?

whats next in 3 years from now when win 12 is out, they will shove win11 down our throats and force us to upgrade? ♥♥♥♥ you and ♥♥♥♥ no.

i can still go download old builds of chrome for winxp, yet i could not install steam on my xp to play my classic games on my nostalgic machine. this just leaves me piracy to play on old hardware. isnt that nice.... i cant even play the games i bought.

steam... legacy support. or people will go back to piracy. what other options do you leave valve?
my software i downloaded when i was a kid back in 2010, it still installs and works flawlessly.

why do the games i purchase have a harder time to get used.
purchased products are just a massive pain in the ass and they drop support left and right however they want.

im just about ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ done with buying games. its such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

YOU DO NOT OWN YOUR GAMES IF YOU CANNOT INSTALL THEM ON THE REQUIRED OS!!!!!!!

YOUR YELLING ACCOMPLISHES NOTHING

you are getting the condensed answers

yes

10, 11,12 and so on will be deprecated

this is not new or news

you are a small portion of the user base that refuses,

for whatever reason,

to upgrade or move your os

those at valve are aware and still going through with it

i chose linux

it is viable and works

Why should they remove all old games when most of them work in Win 10? and for the ones that don't 9/10 times there's a fix for that?

1. As long as PCGamingWiki is active, providing some fixes and mods, classic games still work fine for me.
2. Valve has nothing to do with games that aren't made by them. Go complain to game developers.

Why remove games that work? I mean, as someone with a large catalog of games starting in the 80s, it's quite rare that I actually run into a game that does not work on Win10.

If you think that Valve hasn't factored in that this might mean that some people will stop using Steam, you don't know much about business. But you're wrong that it's "a lot".

A legacy client would be nice, sure. But it's not hard to understrand why a business won't spend resources on something with little gain.

And until someone actually challenges the Steam SSA in court, there is nothing stopping Valve.
OP
PC's aren't Consoles.
Newer Wuindows OSes will support software writtend for older versions. Sometimes even better.
I mean plenty of ganme that were esigned for DOS. And they ran just fine with Windows.

thanks i guess ill ditch steam.

its not needed. ill stop buying games completely then.

fixes are available from the community, not gonna bother buying the game from an unsupported platform.

game developer has nothing to do with steam ditching its old OS support.
but you see no issues what so ever from being locked out of using a product you own so i dont see why i should even talk with you.

go enjoy your screwing.

thats not the point...

lots of compatibility issues even if they work. and some never will work.

the point is steam is still selling us old ass games that arent supported what so ever. steam is the store platform that should let me download my purchase where ever i want.

but hey, you see no issues with it go enjoy the new steam. :)

only reason why i say remove all classic games, is because steam dont care about supporting my purchase for the OS its meant to be played on.
its exaggerated, yeah. but so is cutting us off from our accounts on other OS..

but seeing how everyone seems ok with it, and steam dont give a ♥♥♥♥.

i know what im doing with my money and the future games ill get.
i wont buy them thats for sure.

GOG seems like a good alternative for classic games but i wont bother buying ANOTHER copy of the games i own... ♥♥♥♥ all this bs.

How about no. A great many "old games" work on Windows 10/11. Your desire to have a temper tantrum doesn't create a need for Valve to comply with ridiculous claims or requests.

Just like it ran on XP, 7, 8, and 10 as well. No fiddling required.
