I don't see the unsafe of windows 7. I only see talk about its unsafe. as the mantra is repeated - no updates means no security. this may mean something to an office computer. for the home, these updates mean nothing. imaginary security 10\11 eats up a lot of resources but brings nothing to the user. but the forced transition from the usual operating system is unpleasant. why does the user need telemetry updates under the guise of security updates? simple rules for using a computer, antivirus , firewall, ad blockers will solve almost all problems. they talk too obsessively about the security of windows 10\11 for this to be true.

None of which means a damn thing if Microsoft won't fix/update code for said "antivrius/firewall/adblockers" of which in turn will no longer update their code for windows 7 which means you just shot yourself in the foot 1000 times over.

Please - stop lying to yourself.

If your going to use Windows 7 - fine - even better if your offline - but don't misinform and spray garbage at people like you know better.

In this day and age, most intelligent hackers and security exploiters have moved on from viruses and worms and take more direct approaches because their viruses and worms don't work on modern OS's. They'll try usually to bypass the cookie security system with a pass the cookie, attempt a forceful breach with a remote connection and in the rarest of cases, will breach your PC briefly, drop a spyware bug that your PC won't pick up (A dropper) and steal your data without anyone knowing.

Those security upgrades do more then prevent viruses and worms, they keep up with how security exploiters new means of breaching your PC. This is why Windows 10 has a Core Isolation feature where Windows 7 nor 8.1 does, it prevents outright all access from your Windows 10 OS Core.

In simpiler terms - Windows 7 being unpatched means there are perma-holes in the system - they can just "walk in" without invitaiton. (Unless your disconnected :P)

Windows 10 will be in the same boat in 2025 (October).

The real question is - do you risk it? or not?

Just don't misinform people is my pet peeve. (At general audience)

I'm on Win10 as is, going to Win11 soon just need to back up my drive. I'm not risking it, i've had a damn dropper spyware on my prior PC, damn thing was causing so many issues for so long, and it got to every OS and restore...turns out it was a known Windows 7 exploit, basically it cloned itself as a OneDrive file and got back to the PC by that means which thankfully has been patched, i'm not risking it again, but thats mean.

You've got until October of 2025 - that's over a year away. Not like you have to go right now.
I don't plan on changing OS's until 2025 at a minimum.

Like linux is safer unless the user is very casual but win 7 safe yeah the thing is since no updates means any new hole discovered will remain open and this an os vurnebility so an antivirus isnt gonna protect you but i am suprised you ppl use spyware like antivirus

hello

Not exactly true xd
True about that win7 is vulnerable to any new unpatched cve but most of the time an exe/script need also to be use locally witth this vulnerability and the role of the antivirus is starting here.
And agree linux is safer than windows but may be because it's also less used, no clue if there is link between both "use and security" but i can imagine that as linux is less used as an desktop os, hacker use less time/effort to work on it after all
And last , keep in mind that vulnerability did not appeared the day before the patch has been released and can be in the wild a long time before.

Like i am more suprised win 7 users are using antivirus since yeah it does also send data if they are that concerned over privacy why the heck do they go online in the first place also funnier they are likely paying for the antivirus

So Valve forcing users to abandon Windows 7 to switch to other spyware systems such as Windows 10 or 11 which is even worse in terms of privacy. I don't think this is legal because it creates a wall between the paying user and the purchased product which becomes unusable due to a launcher that has nothing to do with the games sold, GOG is a thousand times better for this, there is no need the launcher to start the games.
I use Ubuntu and I'm fine after abandoning that crap Windows 10, but I agree with the OP. Valve's regulations often conflict with the laws of different countries, this is an anti-consumer practice and has already been sanctioned for these reasons several times. It cannot force the user to change operating system.

Windows 7 is no longer supported, period. It's really not hard to comprehend.

hello
unfortunately i do not think there is other solutions on the long term...

And it's better than before because upgrade for windows is/was free for a long time. There is no other solution than pushing new os , for the case of microsoft, if they want to continue earning money...
