GOG is too Old School to Compete with STEAM,
however they do still support Games like Cyberpunk 2077,
Newer Resident Evil, & such...
Sooooooo?
I tried out Wolfenstine recently on GOG, it was a Free Game,
It had Online Play... I was pleased with the Game...
GOG felt a lot better with my experience then on Steam,
however I can't really justify it being a Steam killer just yet.
And sadly? Even GOG is a mess in with Bugs, not just Steam,
but GOG also has some Bugs going on.
So far if I had to get into it right now? I'd have to say
EPIC Games still seems like the better alternative to
fighting Steam, but GOG is still great for Older Games.
GOG currently only takes a few mb to install & runs
really low recourse, where as Steam is heavy on your system,
so in all reality of the situation?
I had a well rounded better experience with GOG then
I have had with Steam in about 10 Years now.
GOG handled better on my Computer without struggling to run it,
then Steam has in a very long time. But would I actually replace
Steam with GOG? Only if the choices of Games improved first.
Currently I would not. Currently i'd feel far better choosing
EPIC Games instead of GOG to be the Steam killer.
Just my two cents is all...
Epic no steam killer due to being a bare bone store, it also uses CEF if you didn't know, and you have to use client in order to download the games, or even run some of the games that are DRM tied to client, such as denuvo, or etc... So if have same complain as Steam dropping Windows 7/8.1 you're gonna complain again with Epic in the future.
End of the day people like some platforms over others for varies of reasons, but comes down what you plan to just overall, but in this case if wanna stick to only one OS for Life your only choice is Gog, Zoom-platform, or etc that offer offline installer, and offer downlaods for games via web browser without needing a client.
If haven't heard of zoom platform before, check them out.

Meanwhile, we need to DO something about Valve.

Ah, that's why a man my age gets army recruiting spam. It could only be the Arma workshop and forums.
Well, in fact they are desperate right now in what i'm seeing, and idk who else would put a granddad on list of possible recruits. Only place i sort anything military out, is on Arma. It's only me and my wife in this house, and so don't know where else it would come.
I think moving to chrome was an insanely bad idea.
in Game Sales / List of Games...
I'm just looking for any Site with both old / new Games
that isn't as problematic as Steam is. Any Site will do.
I'm having a hard time looking for one, & best I can come up with is EPIC Games.
--- Origin = Only just got more Games on their Store, but it's all EA Games
--- UPlay = Is As Bad As Steam Is Right Now With Problems
--- Blizzard = Doesn't Have A Large Enough Store Front Yet
--- Bethesda = Doesn't Have A Large Enough Store Front Yet
--- Steam = Has their foot up their own Arzs
--- GOG Galaxy = Has mostly older outdated Games,
but their Service works way better then Steam does right now.
EPIC Games doesn't have enough Games to beat Steam,
but they do have Games I wouldn't mind buying on their Service,
& they do have Freebies every so often, so thats a Bonus
& that is enough for me to wanna jump over to them after
all the problems with Steam we are all having. If EPIC Games
are having problems right now? It can't be as bad as Steam.
It just seems to me that EPIC Games is the real winner here...
--- What do you all think?
--- Is Steam really worth all the head aches people are getting right now?
--- Is Steam really worth arguing about 24/7 for 4 Years Straight to get fixed?
--- Is Steam really worth arguing over things that Valve clearly is ignoring us over?
--- Is Steam really worth fighting a losing battle over?
If Valve clearly has made up their mind by now?
Isn't it time we make up our own minds?
What do you think?
It's not like the client moved to chromium yesterday. It's been there for years and it's not a particularly obscure choice. CEF is a largely adopted framework out there.
Consider most people out there don't have those headaches and aren't arguing about it. They're just using their client and playing their games. They wouldn't have the userbase if a large portion of users were having errors.
Of course it sucks for the few who get the short end of the stick and suffer bugs, sometimes for months or years.
--- Uplay changed to new app call Ubisoft connection.
--- Blizzard isn't gonna be big because it just activistion-blizzard games, if didn't know.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activision_Blizzard
--- Bethesda client was shutdown last year if you didn't know, people were able to port their games to Steam free copies.
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-bethesda-launcher-will-be-shut-down-on-may-11/
--- Steam still king of the hill all these years haven't budge once since 2005.
--- Gog still same all these years with games slowly release on Gog YEARS later after release, assuming if publisher want to remove DRM from said game.
--- Epic games uses CEF if still haven't notice, it will at some point update as well which you have a problem with same as Steam.
Epic games only release in 2018 Dec, they been slowly allowing games to list on their store as they're a heavy curated store where they only allow games they deem worth to be listed on their store.
I don't see why you wouldn't claim free games, as they're free.
I don't see why you don't want to use more than one store?
But problem still remains where if you plan to stick to only using Windows 7/8 they will drop it at some point, and your problem comes back all over again, as well the fact Epic doesn't offer download games via browser, Gog does.
--- Why not use all of them?
--- The headaches you refer to about windows 7/8 drop still applies with Epic so you be back to gog soon that happens.
--- People been demanding Gog to fix their client for years, people been demanding changes to Epic for long time, so overall there always gonna be some demands, and arguring wnating something fixed, or added.
--- I don't think that matters either way, saying the same thing.
--- Steam not gonna bend the knee to keep supporting OS they plan to drop in 2024... Other clients may do the same in the future so you still be stuck in same spot complaining about not getting support for Windows 7/8.
Yes Valve made up their mind since the day they made the announcement.
You always had your choices that been explain to you in other discussions, either upgrade OS, or use linux to have the support, otherwinse stick to DRM free games offline installers such as gog, or retail disc copies only if you refuse to upgrade OS, or use linux.
They should really cut down on the free games and invest more on developing it.
New things always have bugs. And I admit, that Valve should make sure, that all those bugs are gone BEFORE they release a new client, but the amount of hysteria new launcher created is just dumb.
Of course it does. It's a far more simplistic piece of software with far fewer features. Despite this, the frontend is more unintuitive than Steam and the UI latency is so high that navigating it feels like wading through a sea of treacle in size twelve flippers.
