Price Hike in certain Games
The base price of certain games have suddenly hiked. I want to know when they will come back to normal.

These are the ones I noticed. Idk if there are more.
Hades = INR 569 1100
Ori & the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition = INR 199 1299
Tunic = INR 699 1300

Note: The striked price was the original price.

Note Ori was upgraded to the Definitive Edition and as such the old verison of the game was removed

The 'price hike' was global as all regions were updated to the new pricing

As a Canadian from Québec I can back OP claims. The prices have hiked considerably for me too. It has already been at least a year if not two that I noticed this and right now I would not even consider at least 3/4 of my wishlisted items without a huge discount. Which is exactly why it is there.

I wish I could go out and say that it is simply normal, considering the sudden drop of CAD in the recent weeks in relation to USD... But like I said it has been going for way longer than that. The very recent prices hikes (yes, even more) can be related to the sudden difference in this regard... But simply compound the problem even further.

My current rule of thumb since about two years is that almost every single game I look at is at least 10$ overpriced over what it really is worth. The higher the actual USD price, the higher this gap increase.

Do you not think it is related to the global economy? Many items have gone up in price.

It certainly has to do with that but it's not the point nor the question. It is a matter of what I'm willing to pay for what the item is actual worth.

Right now, since a while (like I said in my last post) we're getting on the breaking point where I'm not willing to keep up with the ridiculous price hikes.

I think that the only thing that can stop companies from raising prices like this and not caring about players is a joint hearing of the Judicial and Commercial Committee in the Senate against game companies, as happened with several companies such as Facebook, Apple and many others. The field of the game industry, I think, needs to be reviewed and also put forward. Questions to corporate officials by the US government,
This is the only area that I see that no one pays attention to, and companies do what they want without being asked or publishing explicit statements to the public about what is happening between them.

Valve increased the recommended pricing for many regions. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks/announcements/detail/3314110913449340511

Many indie devs are pricing that Valve recommended and updating pricing of old game to what is currently recommended.

In that way Valve can squeeze more money from their 30% tax.

No they won't go back to normal. Price always goes up and not down.

However if u are looking to buy the game buy it from Epic Games Store. The prices over there is still cheaper than steam. If they do increase it. Buy it on sales with coupons.

I don't see how that would help. If the industry would start getting regulated and forced into rules in term of price, companies would just cut development cost and we're going to get the short end of the stick again. Regulated prices, half or even a fourth of the quality we get so far. And many, if not most people agree that the quality of games isn't up there even today.

What would actually need to be heavily regulated instead is predatory tactics used by gaming companies. Those actually fall down under the law even now. They simply get ignored.

Yeah. Well gaming industry has no foresight from any government. The only time they look into is when there is controversy. It needs to change.

Why would they when it's a luxury good?

There are far more things that need monitoring then video games.

The game's industry is heavily monitored just like the rest of the entertainment industry. It's all identity politics and bragging about quotas today.
You may be thinking of the age ratings that is controlled as it's not on anyone but the devs and publishers to set prices they wish to sell goods for.
SLG 13 mar. 2023 às 22:59
Solution: Just add the games to your wishlist and wait for a good sale.

On what basis do you say this? Do you work in the government? Do you have data on this talk?
Why do we hear about so many incidents of harassment in the gaming industry against women?
Why do companies raise prices without even explaining to players?
Why is there a monopoly by certain gaming companies to monopolize them on one platform over another?
Why is there a company that distributes games for free to players like this? Who finances this company to compensate for the losses from publishing games for free?
Is this company living on a treasure that generates money for them like this?
Why is there a company trying to use the style of free games to attract players to its platform from another platform?

Why is there a war of statements between companies to acquire a gaming company now?
Do you think if they were supervised they could do that?

Indeed “ The game's industry is heavily monitored” xD
