How do i disable Steam updating games unless i specifically tell it to?
I have an unfortunately metered connection, and if i download too much, my internet gets throttled down to almost unusable levels. This has never been a problem before, but this month Steam has twice started downloading a backlog of games waiting on updates, and downloaded literal gigabytes before i've had the chance to catch it and stop it.

I need a way to either force the client to require confirmation before it starts downloading an update, OR i need to be able to just turn off updates altogether, so i can turn them on only when i have access to unlimited internet.

Thoughts?

Set the games to only update when you launch them

There is no option to turn off updates as a whole. You can set all games to only update on launch. You can also set the timeframe that updating is possible at a moment that your computer is turned off, I think that works too. though in both of those cases, you still need to update before you can play.

The best you can do is set games to only update on launch.
