What percent of Linux users are compiling their own kernel binaries? Unless you do so, you don't have much more control over Linux than you do over Windows.

Windows continues to supply command line tools that let you totally do whatever you want to your PC.

Do they let you permakill cortana?
googled.... doesnt eveyone have google...

In Windows 11, Cortana is still present, but it's no longer part of the first boot experience. However, in Windows 11, you can turn off Cortana if you don't like it or even uninstall it completely.14 Mar 2022

Not to mention people use tools all the time to rip out various Windows components.

I checked, and that option was omitted in the apps list for cortana. Back when I first used win 10, I was slimming it down of unneeded apps. I had to combine file explorer with task manager to murder cortana, but only till the next windows update (meanwhile windows got back thinking it would be funny if I no longer had a driver for my integrated graphics).

I got one driver from AMD, and reinstalled it multiple times before swapping out the CPU for one without integrated graphics. Windows update uninstalled said driver multiple times, leaving my second monitor dead.

That was not the fix, it was just the end of the tug-of-war. The fix was me getting a better GPU, and a CPU that could properly support it.

And who said anything about trauma (besides you, ofcourse)?

Because you seemed to think I have to be traumatized for some reason. I'm not. Never have been by windows, just irritated.

I should tell you the story of previous computer's "blue-screen'gedon".

So I decided to upgrade to a m.2. All went well, until I finished plugging everything back in. Then it was BSOD, after BSOD upon trying to launch windows. I like to think it was because of my m.2 that the crash dumps were being done so fast that I hardly got a chance to read the BSODs. I can't help but to chuckle at that thought. Turned out the m.2 shut down some SATA ports.
That computer now sits as backup in case I get critical hardware failure in my new one. And the tower before it is my retro-gaming machine.
