Friends list not popping up

I don't know where else to report this but this section of discussions seems like an appropriate place I think. There's a new bug for the friends list with the latest Steam update. I can't open my friends list from clicking the button on the bottom right. The only way to fix it is by restarting Steam. It messes up again every time I launch and close a game. Not a big issue but it is kind of annoying.

I had that happened and my whole list of friend is gone.

No the problem isn't that my friends list is gone. I simply can't open it unless I restart Steam. Launching games from my library brings the problem back and I have to restart Steam to be able to see my friends list again.

Are you maybe loged out on chat? But not on stea.... Then you would not see list of friends on chat.
But you could check with steam support.

Just restart steam, but you will need to restart every time.

This has happened to me the last few days. Only solution I have found is restarting steam, but chat stops working almost instantly again.

past while when log out of friends list, the thing becomes all black and just sits there, valve has become so lazy , steam application has so many issues and bugs.

when I hover over profile pics of my friends and I it no longer shows mini profile. It's just been happening recently I hope they fix it soon.

Had the same issue myself. I gave up on the native UI and switched to the website version.
I think it's happening because Valve added these features with the latest update:

* Added RNG behaviour to chat window open events. Chat windows may now immediately close when opened, so as to render them inoperable. This buff is free and lasts until steam is restarted.

* Added RNG behaviour to friends list window open event. Friends list window will now occasionally not open. This buff is free and lasts until steam is restarted.

Just kidding though, it's not a buff, it's a feature.

I pulled some statistics and drew a graph of recent developments, and according to my math, by early 2024 steam will be just a black frozen window using 2 gigs of ram.

Every single time I want to check my friends list these days, this happens. We need a fix and we need it yesterday. Also pictures of Spider-man.

I have the somewhat the same problem.
Everything works out fine when steam starts. Then I open and play a game.
Everytime I close a game though, friend list just will stop responding. No matter how much I press "Friends & Chat" in the bottom on steam app or "Friends" in the taskbar icon, my friend list won't show up.
