Class action lawsuit
I am looking for anyone who had their in game items stolen by a hacker and not returned to you by steam. It has already been investigated that their 3rd party companies compromised gamers accounts to steal items. Its actually quite the scam they have going. They then trade ban the hacker while you are out all the hundreds or thousands of dollars you paid for your items. Who then sells your items on the market and steam still profits. I am going to file a class action lawsuit for damages as my account had thousands of dollars of items stolen. In a civil lawsuit you only have to prove 50.1% to win and since there are several articles about this happening, there is already case law set against steam and valve. Here are some articles:

So a dude told you about 'a place' you could get 'free stuff' from. And since police didn't instantly come to grab the guy you said 'must be legit' and went through it.

"Beware of greeks bearing gifts" is an advice as old as the Aeneid.

but the gifts were good...

its a combination of things...

Me - not experienced user...
- Steam friends that seemed to have steam experience..
- Steam forum dedicated to game keys...
- Game website...
- this experience to this day was a positive experience....

but also can be a gateway to a negative experience... all presented on steam...

its only the steam discussion forum
that i see these hijacked accounts all the time... that makes me more aware...

you can bring up any argument.....

but steam does have a culture that is advertised as safe by others
that can lead people into scams...

200k of adverts in names and avatars promoting steam insurance...

but Beware...
Your ignorance is your own flaw and fault, no excuse at all.
There is a known company, each time they sent me something, i have to look up if the "link" is a fake one (i would not use that link for anything more than information). Those companies tell people the wrong things.
And their "how to spot fake emails" told me once, the fake email i got was real.
Misleading on both ends.

You can not use "circumstance frames" at all to guess if something is fine. What people should know is, you must make sure on your own if its real. You dont miss anything that way, apart from being scammed or phished.

that may be true.. not the argument....

ignorance does not negate the fact that steam allow these
adverts and promotions that can mislead customers into a false sense of its ok... its ok...

there is a culture of sending people to 3rd party
sites from the steam platform... really simple...
be it the non removal of advertising from players
and companies wanting you to use these 3rd party sites... giving them legitimacy also...

beware...

Steam doesn't allow it. Unless it's officially from Valve, it's not allowed. You assumed, it was allowed, thus in your ignorance, fell for it.
I think it would take years of litigation. And remember that a lawyer may bill you anywhere around 200 dollars, or in some cases more per hour of work.

I won't tell you what to do with your money, but lawsuits are not cheap.

Exactly this. Self education and awareness on the Internet is the biggest defense against scams. There is only so much Valve and other companies can do against scammers. Some are untouchable because of the countries in which they are located. This is nothing new. This kind of stuff has been going on for literally three decades. It is the individual's responsibility not to be gullible enough to fall for this nonsense. As the saying goes, how long did you pee on the toilet seat before someone told you to put it up?

Just an ounce of suspicion is worth a pound of common sense.

How are they deliberately dragging their feet?
Every suggestion to support FIDO2/WebAuthn gets shot down.
Care to show where someone from Valve shot it down?
Sure for being stupid? your account security is your own reposiblility

I think I see what you're saying, and I even agree to an extent that gamers are encouraged to use 3rd party sites. But not by Valve, and not on Steam.

Shift codes for Gearbox ganes are a great example. We can find codes online, we can manualy enter them into our game. Or we can link a 3rd party shift code site to our Gearbox account, to make it easier. Totally legit, and totally encouraging questionable habits, and totally nothing to do with Valve or Steam.

It's still on each of us to keep our information secure. Valve does what they can on Steam, but beyond that they have zero reach.

My rule of thumb, I NEVER log in to anything from outside of the thing I am logging in to. Don't log in via other websites. Don't log in from an email link, ever. Log in to Steam from Steam and nothing else, I can't think of ANY situation that requires a login from anything other than the Steam application (or maybe their actual website )

no lawyer will take your case to win. only thing what will happen is the lawyer take your case but prolong the legal thing to get as much money out of you. also go ask the people who wanted to take legal action against Valve/Steam, how far they got

Since when does the community officially speak for Valve?

We definitely don't. They've added plenty of things regulars tried to argue against.

That doesn't mean Valve shot it down. They have implemented a few things the community has been against.

One thing I remember was mandatory HTTPS. Community kept arguing it was unnecessary despite the fact that Firesheep proved it necessary.
