In other words, the article is still correct. Valve is still doing business in Russia. Interesting. Those of us on Win 7 are being cut off this Jan, yet the boogyman we constantly hear about, continue to play their games.

You're doing GREAT, Mr Newell.
By your logic dude, anyone with internet explorer/edge, firefox, chrome, tor, brave or other browsers are doing business in Russia, thats not how that remotely works.

The article is also not only wrong, but they said Valve.
Not Steam, so their not even making it clear if its a Steam issue to begin with altogether

You brought up an interesting issue, if that if they purchased the games, you can't shut them out. To be upheld by what court, i wouldn't know. The country and their leader considered a pariah that doesnt even honor a trade or international court atp..

While more than a million are being shut out this Jan, with no recourse on Win 7. Good enough for them, but not for us.

Brilliant, Mr Newell :steamfacepalm:

They did what was obligated of them and cut payment processes to and from Russian banks, that's all that a "trade" sanction requires of you. To stop selling/buying product in the sanctioned country.

But hey, let's continue with the misinformation, shall we?
I can actually further make it clear that the United States did clarify on technology: The US instituted export controls, a novel sanction focused on restricting Russian access to high-tech components, both hardware and software, made with any parts or intellectual property from the US. The sanction required that any person or company that wanted to sell technology, semiconductors, encryption software, lasers, or sensors to Russia request a licence, which by default was denied. The enforcement mechanism involved sanctions against the person or company, with the sanctions focused on the shipbuilding, aerospace, and defence industries

Valve does not supply military-grade nor civilian grade semiconductors, encryption software, lasers nor sensors, especially when it clarifies further that "The sanctions focused on Shipbuilding, aerospace and defense industries"
Plus, keeping game servers open as an avenue provide a perfect method for people to get news methods under the radar that aren't Russian State.

Sure, there's a massive misinformation campaign coming from Russia for a good decade most likely in the works, but we've seen a lot of people get arrested in Russia for protesting the war as well.

We shouldn't turn our backs on innocent people due to the actions of their government.

It's quite literally steam ToS for devs to not lock access to games out on an individual basis. Day of Scamgons (Dragons) Dev, Jao. Learned that the hard way when he tried to hard code SteamID bans into the platform to close/refuse to launch to specific Youtubers who gave him bad reviews.

Those rules apply to them as well.
You Americans are totally incapable of imagining that anyone on earth could choose to live differently than you....

What is worse – and what is much more extreme – is that you believe you have a right, in fact a duty, to force your way of life on others by any means necessary.
Probably because that's where they've been outsourcing their Steam Moderators from lmao

By enforcement of the United Nations and NATO, they basically do have that right. Whats beyond human understanding is how people forget that NATO nor the UN would exist if Hitler didnt get a bug in his pants and decide global genocide was the tops.

You want extreme, what you see today is nothing compared to past events (Anyone remember Crimea sanctions?)

What does that have to do with the thread?

Only likely reason why the USA is involved for sending money/weapons/paying for their pensions is certain unethical previous political business in ukraine. I doubt the citizens got to vote on any of that being done from their money.

Well let me at least as an American, make myself clear. I believe just that. I think folks should be free, to run their own affairs, in a way they see fit.

I don't blame you for saying "you Americans", being i think that is the narrative.

Cool so why don't startat home?
book bans
abortion rights
mass shootings
trans/human rights
growing fascism
basic healthcare
etc
etc
etc

There is a reason people call it "a third world country with a gucci belt"

Well there it is. So how are we in any position, to tell, others, what to do? We have our own issues, and we're supposed to be worried about Russia and Ukraine? I don't want to sound insensitive (its awful what the Ukrainians are enduring), but its not our affair.

My own two cents on this issue, has to do with the narrative we're being told in this country, and Mr Newell skating from it, evidently.

It's really embarassing hiow you sink to even new lows just to justify your agenda.
Like you're the only country facing domestic issues and now use that as an excuse to deny help to innocent people in need.
And while you probably think this is clever you're just exposing yourself more with every post and at this point it's simply disgusting.

That charity money is forcibly taken from everyday Americans who have no say in the matter.

Amusing to see you flip-flop, first from "Ban russians from gaming and steam forums" now to "We have no right to tell other nations what to do."

Really anything to push your own personal agenda, really.

Yes, that's how taxes work. You take part in the benefits of a society, you pay to help support it. and if you disagree with the current global politics the society partakes in, you have several choices: Move, go off the grid, or vote for someone you feel best represents your interests.

Drive paved public roads? Your tax dollars. Use the public education system? Your tax dollars. Use any programs supported by state/government programs (SSI, Disability, Social Security, Food Stamps, etc)? Your tax dollars.

Imagine shilling for a state-run extortion racket... for free.
