Are Links Not Allowed In Profile Bio?
recently, a few weeks ago i got 2 warning messages roughly saying "links on bio are not allowed" from steam, and when i check on my profile, my bio has completely been reset, all of the redirects are gone, and now my bio says the default "No Information Given."

does that happen to everyone? because ive seen some people who still have redirects in their bio...

what links are not allowed?
i just had a simple web direct to my youtube channel and my twitter account, that was it. nothing suspicious or malicious...

and when i re-edited my bio with links again, it's completely fine...

edit: because people accused me of using suspicious shorteners like bitly, no, i did NOT.
i have only copied the raw link to my twitter and youtube, but that also gets removed.

They are allowed, but some links may get auto flagged by Steam.

Did you shorten your links or something like that?

Stop using ad-laden redirect link shorteners and it wouldn't happen. Youtube and Twitter both have their own, proper, shorteners. Use them and stop trying to hit people with BS redirects that are more often than not malware vectors. The removal WILL happen again, I can almost guarantee it.

If you're using link shortening services to redirect people, then it goes without saying they'd be deleted. Advertising/Spam accounts on forums typically use services like Bitly and Linktree to disguise malicious links.

i can understand bitly, but linktree???
linktree is just a centralized bio to link all of my socials...
there is no harm in linktree as far as i know...

Yeah I don't see why linktree would be an issue.

I could see someone make the argument that it could be used to more discreetly link or things you shouldn't, but you could also just do that with a domain you own, so it doesn't make sense.

That's Linktree's primary function, but it has been used as a means of creating phishing links in the past. Obviously it's substantially less likely to be used for that than Bitly; but any sort of external URL modification service will appear suspect when used instead of an unmodified, direct link to your other media.

yeah I did. I think I'm gonna try to just stop posting on steam. I've been relatively safe from it so far, but I got wanred for being a bit too "aggressive" (The worst word was stupid, referring to pointless comments, not calling the individual stupid, rather his comment), and looking around I've fallen into stories of reddit mods power tripping. The internet has just become a cess pit of power tripping mods in big centralized forums.
Supposedly valve doesn't moderate the forums. They have some random third party do it. It's not the worst place in the world, but when I got 2k+ games tied to this account, I don't need to risk getting banned for no reason. Hopefully valve recognizes this one day and invests in a home hosted mod team, rather than outsourcing it. Community is one of the things I love about steam and why I buy all my games here, so it takes away a huge part of this platform for me.

Not nicknames, the description.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
