Shader Pre-caching is on Windows.
The same as it is on deck?
I have never downloaded a 4gb pre cache file like i do on Spider Man on Deck for exemple.
on windows the prechaching is only for opengl/vulcan games where that pre-caching makes sense
on the steamdeck steam is loading the linux based pre-cache which are going to be larger for games like spiderman
Ok, my question still stands.
Why cant we have precache for all games on windows? Or atleast make it optional
Uh cuz directx already does that. In fact you'll see many games do an initial compilation of shaders the first time you load the game. Pretty much any modern game you are playing on windows right now, using directx, loads pre-shaders as part of the initial run of the game.
Yes, some games do that, i know that.
I'm asking why STEAM can't use the same caching system it has on Steam OS on Windows FOR ALL GAMES.
You understand this? I really can't be more clear.
I'm not asking about DirectX, im not asking about vulkan. Im specifically asking about Steam applying a function that it has on Linux for the Windows version.
Creating a precache on all games can be done on Steam for windows, i'm asking why it hasnt been done.
