wtf happened to big picture mode?

So recently I've been out of the loop with Steam on PC mainly because I have been playing on my Steam Deck. Today I decided to fire up my PC and play some games in Big Picture Mode and now I just get a black screen... Sometimes it shows the interface but it's very laggy and I get the Steam Deck UI on my PC for some reason lmao.

The Steam Deck UI is replacing the old Big Picture Mode UI.

As said above, the old BPM UI is gone. It wasn't updated for quite some time and was buggy.

The new interface was added a few months back if memory serves me well, but that's also very buggy too (as evidence by your post). It's also a regression in some ways since there's some features been stripped from the old BPM such as music players, Community tabs, and the new controller configuration page is actually worse from a UX perspective with some options not working the way they used to and it required more buttons/clicks to do the same as the old UI.

However, it's still a work in progress clearly, so hopefully Valve get it fixed up asap.

Hoping it is a work in progress. I use my steam link A LOT, and having quite a few hangs and crashes that I never got before.

+1 I get black screen on PC Steam Library when I trying to set gamepad layout through Big Picture window. Also, gamepad layout not change, no matter what preset I choosing.

Just came here to vent. Big picture has always been a buggy POS, but this new update is horrifically buggy. I almost smashed my controller in frustration. Most recent example is I was trying to minimize big picture, but instead it would select my most recent game somehow. And then trying to exit big picture caused the game to launch even though I was at Steam home screen. WTF

I wished they were better alternatives to Steam Input & Big Picture. A open-source initiative would be better. Wished Microsoft would wake up and implement something like those within their OS.

so much this, I posted about how terrible it was back when it was new and got attacked for it by so many people basically saying I was using it wrong
