I just had someone on chat app ask me if I had steam and then send me a code and said to use it to get 20 bucks, is there a way they can like hack or get my account in trouble? If I did enter the code?

hack the account, no. accounts dont get hacked, they get hijacked/phished because the owner gave away the account log in with out realizing it.

one code is not going to be much use, steam requires multiple pieces of information for an account recovery to work, and they are very strict on what they want.

the code will either work or it wont work. physical cards are now currency locked, so there is a chance the card is completely useless to you.


if the card was bought with stolen payment information or a chargeback was issued, the worst that happens is you wallet funds go into a negative balance till you add enough to bring it to 0 or positive funds. what ever you bought being revoked from the account. steam just takes back the funds from the account.

they cant get your account banned unless this is something that your account has a running history of being involved in.
