Need a steam deck price drop
reason being is after watching some videos of steam deck it has become clear that steam deck is actually being used to steam link and remote play high end games in alot of the videos

this is misrepresenting the actual ability of steam decks hardware

steam deck will run low demanding games great

it can not however run demanding high end titles directly it can only steam link remote play them when a more powerful computer is actually running the game.

for this reason i believe that users deserve a fair price for this piece of hardware

reasonable price

200 dollars for the low end model
300 for the mid range
400 for the expanded range

this is my opinion because if you really want the steam deck to succeed you need to get it to the players you need to not get stuck with hardware that is quickly becoming out dated and you need a player base that can use it.

currently steam deck is not for everyone it is a low grade hand held desktop computer, it is not a gaming pc it does not have the hardware capable of handling high end games.

you might not like it but i don't think customers will like buying something that none of the games they want to play will work on. it will lead to mistrust and misrepresentation to the customer that will ultimately create failure.

best of luck with this to steam marketing i will look foward to your price drop and to possibly owning your hardware.

I see it as $299.

I quoted the MSRP price to indicate what the 'expected' value of the product is to Logitech. In the same way the OP seems to think a 'purely streaming' device should be something like $200. Like sure if the steamdeck wasn't doing so well they might be liquidating it for $200 as well. But that's not the expected price of the product. And it shows trying to get even a 'dumb' streaming system down to $200 is not easy unless you're Nintendo making literally millions of Nintendo Switch Lite's.

OnLive - Dead
Stadia - Dead
Nvidia Game Stream - Dead

What's next?

I mean to sort of address the few you're talking about

OnLive/Stadia had more of an economic value proposition issue than anything else. For OnLive, there was a competitor Gaikai tha actually did demos of games via a java based client. That was bought out by Sony, and Gaikai's technology is currently integrated into PS+ streaming service.

I will rag on Stadia for all eternity, but from a purely technical perspective it was incredible. It was the best most stable streaming service and technically impressive. If you got it to work, and yeah I know that's sort of the core problem with streaming in general, it was actually a pretty amazing thing.

I have xbox ultimate and the MS streaming is... 'ok'. It definitely does wierd things with graphics at times. If that was the only way I could get games I would be very mad at MS for the performance. But as it stands, given its a tertiary benefit I get from xbox ultimate I'm more tolerant of its faults.

Nvidia Game Stream is kind of a different thing as the most comparable product would be their GeForceNow streaming service which is still going and Nvidia is expanding the options (and costs) for it. I think people seem to think that GameStream was a streaming 'service' where as it was more of a mega custom SteamLink application for the Nvidia Shield. Which is sort of redundant now given you can just get any Android tablet and put SteamLink on it to get basically that functionality. Calling GameStream 'dead' is like technically true but also not very relevant in this context.

But it isn't a 'mobile style experience' because you're just casting to your TV.

That's if your tablet is able to be broadcast on your TV(not all can) to begin with.

no its casting from a Gaming PC to a tablet that has bluetooth controllers or touch screen controllers basically turning your android screen into a full portable pc gaming device, do you have any clue what steam link is? it actually links your devices together to a shared screen so you can control the pc screen with the tablet and view the pc screen on the tablet.

it is what steam play actually is its called remote gaming.

please REREAD: steam link is also linking Controls, so that the tablet has control of the pc

It doesn't turn your tablet into anything except a casting device. No different than a Chromecast. IF you are able to display your tablet to your TV, then your tablet is still just a casting device displayed on your TV.

'Linking the screen' is literally just casting your screen to something else. All tablet is doing is casting the screen from your PC to your tablet with Steam Link.

lol ok just give me the inner workers and screen then for the 200 and ill make my own plastic junk case

You are never going t be able to buy things off the shelf that will have the portability or the finish. Even if you tried to 3d print something

Also the cost of a 'DIY' kit would be actually very high because of the high return rate you'd have to expect with people absolutely faffing up the assembly then blaming you for 'defective parts'

Look at the Framework laptop. If you try to spec out a similar laptop in the pre-built category, vs the DIY category, its actually MORE EXPENSIVE to make a DIY version with the same parts including the Windows License. That's because the 'base' cost of the DIY laptop does not include RAM or storage or windows license. After you add the 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD and the windows license, the DIY verison is $40 more expensive. Doing something DIY is not always cheaper

I suggest looking at the thread I linked. It will explain how this guy's mind works.
Oh, deary me.

Is this really how you want to spend your time on Steam because FO76 didn't get nominated for an award?

Oh yeah, that was the main reason he started on the forums.

The whole conspiracy that like 90% of users are bots and we're being programmed to vote and ♥♥♥♥.

Then into how Valve is lying about the Steam Deck selling to hide how much of a failure it is or anything.

He didn't even start blatantly making things up about the Deck. He would say stuff like, "I'm not hating on the Steam Deck but... (proceeds to hate on the Steam Deck)".

It's only after people starting calling out his BS that he shifted his attitude.

I hear Fallout 76 is a halfway decent game now. (I still haven't tried it.) That should be enough, shouldn't it?
Don't worry, it will when the hype around it is gone.
Just like the Valve Index was reduced in price after the hype drop... oh.
The moment OP defaulted to "You must be a shill", their entire argument became null and void.

As it proves they were more interested in being right, than actually holding any sort of debate.

Look, I get it, sucks to be broke, but being entitled to cheaper prices for something like a luxury object like the Steam Deck, because you WANT it, isn't how adulthood works.
I could see an eventual shift, phasing out the low end model, and having the mid-tier model and replace it at its current price point. The high end would shift the the mid tier, and a new model would take the place of the higher end.

Odds are that will not happen for a couple years, perhaps when the deck 2 is released.
