I'm probably going to hold off though in case they release a more power efficient chip on the current model. I bought the Nintendo Switch in 2018, but it wasn't until 2019-2020, that it got better battery life.
That said, perhaps that changed. THis is something I remember from about 2.5 years ago. So things might have changed in the meantime and new solutions to old problems were found.
It's a nice device, especially for retro gamer - all-in-one emulation solution. But in my case, the price is too high for this toy. Maybe I'll get an average-condition used one somewhere in 3 years, just for RetroArch.

Serious question: Are You Trolling ?
In the middle of a game, press sleep/on/off button = off
Latter want to continue, press sleep/on/off button = resumes were you left off.
Falling: I was at the beach playing it while walking the dogs, got back put the DECK on the roof, got the dogs into the car, gave them treats, drove up the access road 3/4 mile, turned onto public road 25-30 m/hr heard a noise something hitting and skipping across the road. Stopped the car when I realized what it was. walked back, it was lying facedown before picking it up I said, if its busted I will buy another straight away, it's worth the money, so chill, picked it up, screen undamaged, trigger keys and pad scruff marks from hitting n' sliding across the road surface (15feet skimming on the road), clam shell as in DECK shell slight open, triggers and plastic behind triggers (full press in) took most of the physical damage. I ran back to car as sitting on the road, said fine it now or latter, did something get damaged on the inside due to the fall off the roof of the moving car, pressed the on/off button and the DECK resumes playing the game, tested it and perfect. I only had the DECK 2/3 weeks, that was months ago. Silly thing is I have the protective case, but between carrying the case and the DECK left that in the car, now I leave the case on my seat so when I get back to the car, put the DECK it first.
Money, it's cheaper than a gaming PC, you are not stuck in one corner of one room in the house, your not taking up the main TV, like Christmas console, with 1 person playing and everyone else saying can we watch a movie instead of watching you playing a game. You can watch a movie while playing the game.
So far I've had no issues playing games, (note I had the steam controller so my set ups were there & had plenty of experience fine tuning the controller config)
Battery life I play with it plugged in, the lead is long, only twice have I run the batteries down, and that was after a good few hours play, (you lower the screen brightness to playable levels) When walking & playing I use Bluetooth headphones, my walks are about 2+ hours and never run out of power for them.
Reviews: don't mind Youtube (give a like&subscribe) reviews, people will nitpick, I'm a critic must find something bad to say, err only thing I can come up with is battery life, so go with that.
A mobile phone switches of the screen to save battery, many mobile will not make it dawn till dusk. What the DECK does is remarkable, a full functioning portable computer with a mobile screen. From me a solid 2/3 hours playing games when mobile, then plug it in at home.
Many people carry a charger with them for their mobile phone as normal, so no different if you are going to be playing all day out and about, find a charging point, it's not really a make or break issue, anyway if you didn't have the DECK, you wont be playing it anyway, so not buying it cause it might run out of power, stopping you from playing compared to zero play time.
I'm gonna say F(idddle) the playstation/xbox & big-rig master race PC. The DECK is a mighty mouse, punches above its weight and does what its built for, for you to play games and enjoy.
A tech friend, same as you read reviews, and says well for €1000 you can get a better screen + etc. My response is nothing cause they haven't experienced it, they are clueless as I said to them big budget movies dont make a great movies. I didn't bother showing them the DECK, why I am so happy with it, does exactly what I want.
I honestly haven't touched my Switch in months outside of group game nights.
The amount of hours I've put into my Steam Deck is closely approaching double what it cost.
With how successful the Steam Deck has been as a product I believe there will be more models in the future. Maybe not today, but 2 years from now could be a different story. I'm holding off on buying one until the battery life improves. Also, the reason the Aya Neo 2 is more expensive is because it has much more capable gaming hardware than Steam Deck. If they improve the screen and battery life, that's worth paying an extra 50 or 100 dollars. They're not going to price it at $1000 and lose the casual/budget gamers.
$400 really isn't bad for a handheld PC that plays most games and you can take it anywhere. If you're just getting into PC gaming for the first time, I'd say just get a Steam Deck as it's the cheapest/best option. Even if you were to build a $300 rig it wouldn't be portable.
