Is the $649.00 steam deck worth getting or should I get the cheaper ones?
Is it better to just get the cheaper decks or is the most expensive version of the steam deck worth it?

The only difference is the storage size and anti-glare screen.

The question is do you plan on getting a bigger hard drive or not. Honestly I think the middle one is the best deal if you don't plan on putting a bigger hard drive in. From the video's I have seen the most expensive one's screen is duller as a result of the etching, but is better if you plan on using it outside.

As for performance, they all are more or less identical, so any model should work.

This^. Shader pre-caching alone can eat up all the space on the 64GB model.

Just be aware that if you get the 64GB one you’ll have to either: only install multiple small games, one or two larger games, install a larger SSD or buy an SD card. It’s just not practical otherwise with how much space the OS, Proton and the shaders take up.

Personally, I vote for the 256, it’s a pretty good middle ground.

Edit: Oh, and you need to keep a gig or two free at all times so that the Deck doesn’t panic when you move from Desktop to Game mode.

Is it easy to upgrade the storage space on the steam deck? If so then the middle option might sound like the best.

There are YouTube videos that show you how it is done, if your not confident after watching them, I would just get the 256 model. You can still put games on a SD card, and most do not really affect the gaming performance much.

THe easiest way is to use the SD Card slot to expand storage. You can 'in theory' change the SSD internally, though you have to purchase a specific kind and taking the steamdeck apart is 'easy' but not trivial

Get the $650 one and add a 1TB micro SD

for 650.00 you can buy the 400.00 steam deck, a 512gb SSD and install it, a 1tb sd card, and a dock for the same price.

you can get a used laptop for that price; and at least with a laptop the battery is easy to swap; unlike the deck; so steam deck is ridiculously overpriced especially with emerging battery degradation issues popping already.

There hasn't been battery degradation issues.

NO, build better PC hardware for less. Console is better then a steam deck. PS for the portable fanatics, phones play emulators.

The appeal of the deck is the portability. Phone emulators are very limited along with not able to play anything on your Steam library.

The Deck also makes an amazing emulation machine for $400.

It is getting old real quick.

The iPhone 15 dies 4x Ray Tracing and plays all the latest games.

See what I mean?
