Is there any problems from installing Steam and main library in default location C/program files x86 folder in Windows 10?
I heard before that this can cause some problems with games installed there. Although I thought this was
only true on Windows Vista or XP.
I accidentally installed steam and a bunch of games on new computer in Program Files x86, and wondering if I it might be a problem.

Just a rumor, so it is false. You can install games on any drive and folder except Windows and User folder.

I think its because Program files x86 and x64 are protected, which some believe may prevent games from working properly. Another common belief is that 64bit games might not work correctly due to being installed into Program Files x86 which is supposed to be for 32 bit, but it's merely a name of the folder.

They are not considered protected; however, you can't delete this folder because it is in using.

I thought its protected that Windows prevents game from changing its own files or something.

You may see security in the tab of setting option yes, but I assure you that it is not protected. Because where you want game files in is up to you. That is where the default setting of Steam will put in.

The biggest difference is bluray movie, because it hide a real video files by the HDCP (high-definition content protected), but programs files 64x or 86x doesn't have it.
It can cause problems only if you don't give the games permissions to read/write their folders while in that folder. This can be circumvented by running the games as an admin which gives them full access like and admin would have.

This generally isn't recommended by it gives the games full access like an admin. If you install Steam and the games in there; you can simply copy the games folders from there, point Steam to a new library folder, and then paste the games you copied. Steam should populate with the games you have installed and only may need to do some minor verification to make sure everything is good.

Thanks. But what is wrong with running games as administrator? Occasionally I seen games that wouldn't work properly and running them as administrator solved the problem. Also with steam, origin or any other store, I find that its usually a good idea to disable the overlay unless you really need it. Some games just don't handle the overlays well.
