i gave a couple profile awards to someone and realized later that he doesnt really deserve it.
can you take back awards or cancel it or something?

Not really, no.

not exactly a con, but yeah its american, originated in the 1700's.

It's basically a term for a "gift with expectations" or a "conditional gift" or " a gift that turns out to be a loan rather than a gift".
