help please - forza horizon 5

i've always played fh5 through the gamepass, but because it's the only game I play there I wanna buy it on steam and cancel the gamepass subscription.

does anyone know if you need to have an xbox subscription to play fh5 on steam?

sure, but there it says it requires third-party account: xbox live (allows linking to steam account)

does this mean i have to link my ms store account? and if I don't have the subscription, I won't have access to the multiplayer?

yes just log into your xbox account through steam and you are good. There are other such games like age of empires 2 for example that ask the same. (Happy Gaming)
