Steam keeps reopening!

Everytime I hit X on steam to close the window, it keepa opening . Any ideas how to stop this epic struggle aside from restarting when it happens?

Open up your task manager, go into the Details section, and end task on Steam. It'll kill it completely.

Right-click the window in the taskbar and pick "Close Window".
That works even when clicking the little x doesn't.
Is this the client or perhaps your browser window? There might be other issues if its your browser that keeps re-opening.
Also if you completely exit steam and it still shows up... then thats not steam.
Additionally check Steam>View>Settings... click on Interface and see if its checkmarked to start when the computer starts or not (your choice).

Basically was the pc app window, clicked the X, it flashed away but came back in less than a second. Tried 5 times then closed it down by exiting app in task bar.

If you're closing Steam, you need to click the Steam link at the top left and select exit.

im having the same issue...sorta. i can only close it by going into task manager and soo as i do it opens again i cant click on the x or any of the menu's up top and theres no drop downs for my other menu's

nm soon as i clicked on the news icon i was able to close it down...but im gonna leave this here for other's in case they have the same problem

I also have this problem. But if I try to close it in task manager it also reopens.

To all those geniuses suggesting to exit fully or kill it through task manager, he is not trying to exit Steam. He just wants to close the window and it keeps popping back up.

Then instead of hitting the X mark OP should hit the _ instead. It'll minimize the window to his taskbar.

You're a genius learn how to read how many times do they need to say they are (closing it in task manager) for it to pop back up

Having the same problem as well (was never a problem for me prior to the latest steam redesign) I will click EXIT on the steam menu itself, & without fail it re-opens again (1/2 hour to an hour later) without my input.

The ONLY way I prevent it from opening again is by killing it in the Task Manager. Because closing the window does nothing as it runs in the background. You have to kill the entire process in Task Manager for it to stay closed.

They're obviously not, because if they did so it would stay closed. Perhaps they should try killing it in the Task Manager by going to "Details" and killing it there, instead of in the "Processes" tab.

for anyone who is still reading this, and is having the same problem I did. Im not going to lie, I dont really know what these peoples problem is BUT, IF you are trying to end the steam task in task manager, make sure you are ending the task named "steam" NOT the webhelper or whatever its called, if you search by name the webhelper will pop up first, ending that task instead of steam itself, will close the steam window, but then it will reopen it. You need to find the steam task and end that. (btw using the drop down menu on steam webhelper does not have steam popping up.)
