BIOS IS ALTERED AND KEYBOARD REMAPPED WHEN RECEIVING TRADING CARDS
I just recently started getting steam trading cards, staring a few days ago.

Today, I noticed that my keyboard was getting remapped somehow. This would occur while I was logged into steam - usually while I was playing a game - requiring me to exit and re-start my computer. Later today, I was able to correlate instances of unauthorized keyboard remapping with the receipt of new steam trading cards.

When I first starting getting trading cards I would get, at most, 1 trading card a day. It did not cause any problems then - I believe because the cards were received while my computer was turned off. Then, yesterday evening, I noticed my keyboard starting to act up while playing a game. I exited the game and reset my computer, but then it got worse.

This evening my keyboard kept getting remapped repeatedly (3 times) during a 2 or 3 hour period. I had to exit from steam to restart my computer each time. That's when I noticed (after the third instance) that I had also received 3 more trading cards during the same 2 or 3 hour period,

I also discovered that my bios settings were being changed, requiring me to reset bios as well.

This has only occurred while I was either playing a game in steam, or while I was AFK (but still logged into steam). It does not occur when I am not logged in to steam.

How do I unsubscribe from trading cards? They have rendered my steam account unusable.

If there is no way to rid my account of this debacle, I will have no choice but to leave steam.

That doesn't sound like a Steam thing. You might want to do virus scan of your computer. That to me sounds like your system is compromised.
Satoru 31 dec, 2022 @ 19:27
Uh note that receiving trading cards isn’t done on your system. That all happens in a database on Steams end. Nothing touches your system when that happens

Sounds more like you have a virus you need to address

As of this writing, it has been two hours since I received a steam trading card, and keyboard has NOT been remapped.

Negative. NORTON 360 smart scan reports computer is virus free... ...Proceeding to run full system scan.

Oh boy. NORTON...I'm not sure how to tell you this, but NORTON is just as bad as McAffee. I take it you have a Windows computer? Use Defender. It comes with your OS. And knows how to check every inch of your system. NORTON doesn't cover everything.

OK. I will try that as soon as NORTON full system scan has completed.

Thanx

Are you new to Steam?

Trading Cards nor the Trading Card system have NOTHING to do with your altered BIOS.

It's being handled. Calm thyself.

Honestly that just tells me that you have a virus

Again trading cards are entirely server side. Nothing happens on the client. The client cant alter your bios either.

You have something on your system screwing it up. If you're 'lucky' maybe your BIOS battery is jsut dying.

The OP is the one who needs to calm down....imagine thinking Steam trading cards can alter your bios. ..lol.

Are you aware that these forums are public?

Even the OP thinks it's a virus or he wouldn't be scanning.
Tristin 31 dec, 2022 @ 19:50
Just because you have anti-virus means nothing if it doesn't catch it. You're pretty much saying, "Hey we got police in our town, so we have 100% no crime in our city". ???? False. You definitely have virus, and you have false sense of security.

If you think you've done it all to fix it, you haven't if its not fixed. Your local network is likely compromised. Network settings and wifi are big factor in that. Update all your stuff. Bottom to top. It'll take lot of your time to fix it.

He's scanning because I suggested it. Because it makes sense.
He should've scanned before making this thread. I posted because OP doubted what Satoro said and for the fact that thinking that trading cards have the power to alter bios or any other system setting, is horrendously wrong.
