what will forced off do

assume that i have an xbox controller connected to my laptop. xbox support is not enabled in controller config in big picture mode in steam. after that i go to controller options for a game in big picture mode and i can choose between these options:-
1) global (off)
2) forced off
3) forced on

if i set it to forced off in that game and xbox support is disabled then will forced off do something extra? or it will get ignored because it does the same thing as disabling xbox support?

Forced off meaning everything is off, period.
Global means your global settings which may just as well differ per type. So it max be off for XInput but on for PS.

Forced-off overwrites everything to "off, and when I say 'off', I mean 'OFF!'", global settings are more nuanced.

If you want to use the input mapper on the desktop, let's say because you're controlling your HTPC from the couch.

1) global (off) <--- Uses whatever controller driver available either game driver, or Steam driver.


2) forced off <--- Disable Steam controller support, only rely on game controller driver if has one, not all games has controller support.


3) forced on <--+ Only used Steam controller support over game driver support.


Some games lacks controller support, or has funky controller setups, Steam warpper or controller support allow you to give all kinds of support to your controller setup as you can remap buttons to anything you want from mouse clicks, keyboard, or controller itself as you can swap keys to what you want.

Steam warpper can support other controllers by emulating them as Xbox controller, if game doesn't have native support for said controller, example if want to use ps5 controller, you can use Steam warpper to emulate it as Xbox controller.
