Use Steam without a phone number?

Is it possible to use Steam long-term without any phone number? Just an email and Steam gift cards? I know you need a phone to use the marketplace but he doesn't need the marketplace.

The only thing that requires a phone number is Steam Guard. I can't guarantee you absolutely everything wont require a phone but you can sure use Steam without one.

It is possible to use Steam without phone number. Some may don't even have phone number nor any cell phones (only using landline type phone in home for example). Optional added Steam guard security with Steam app on smartphones.

No idea about long term as Valve can always change something in the future. But as it is now no phone number is required if you simply want to use Steam as games store and launcher.

Some games require attaching a number to play multiplayer.

MWII requires it and Dota 2 ranked play does too.

There is a minimum to have an "unlocked"? account. But it is a lifetime thing.

Once a year transaction to use market place .. but no limit on time for using an account for gaming or forum or screenshots or broadcasting stuff.

Workshop requires full name and address to use, not sure about phone.

Wallet cards require full name and address in the USA, less in the EU
