Your Steam account: Access from new computer (SCAM)
I've been getting these emails for months now from so called STEAM via noreply@steampowered.com (with code) stating access from a new location/computer about the above but without the correct username for my steam account (you know the real username you sign in with, which is a dead giveaway of it not being legit) for a quite a while now (which I know is definitely a scam) I'm just curious if anyone else on here are getting the same emails? And hopefully this thread can be a warning for users, if this hasn't already been discussed.

Edit: This is for those that don't understand my post and or are unable to read/comprehend or just lazy, my accounts not compromised/hacked, just a question of if there are others receiving emails that are similar from obvious scammers and is/can be warning to those that do to be careful is all.

That sounds like someone knows your account name and password and the only thing that saved your account from being taken over is SteamGuard.

Secure your account, then find out how you leaked your credentials.

No that's impossible, the email is using my account username which I can pick anything not the actual username that is used to sign/login/password to steam.

Anytime I get an actual real email from Steam I'm presented with my real username login.

What makes this weird is the supposed attacker knows two datapoints linked to your account. Two sets of data that are hard to come by together

-Your email
-Your SteamID (from where they got your profile name).

Have you linked those two pieces of data anywhere else than Steam? Third party sites linked to your profiel?

I'm assuming right you don't have Steamguard through the mobile app and are using mail codes instead?

No and the first time I received the email I went to the steam site via browser and changed/upgraded my password, so there's no way they have access to my account period. And no I'm not using steamguard and yes for email codes, which these fake ones don't have my correct username. I've never had any problems with my account be it being accessed from someone else and still don't.

Yeah I get these too. Wrong name used and sent to the wrong email as well.

Good that you recognised it. I think just about everyone needs to see this as a just in case/heads up situation.

Never ever let anyone know your account name. Otherwise those scammers will try to log in.

You cannot guess my username. I can guarantee you even if you tried everything on my profile you wouldnt nail it.

If somebody know your login informations, you gave them away. Or you are one of those people that thing using the same profile name and account name is SOMEHOW a good idea.

Obviously, I agree, right on the money.

I lol'd when I read this part, because people can be so frustrating, like 5-6 years ago, I reported a scam to Nvidia, posted on their forums that I had gotten a well made scam email using all of Nvidia's imagery etc. and it was just a heads up to the community and Nvidia... I was reporting a scam... The majority of the replies were about how dumb I was for falling for it... At no point did I say anything about falling for it, but people remarkably read very little of what they are replying to.

Thanks for the heads up on the potential new scam, I personally haven't gotten this one yet.

TBF, it's laziness on my end. We get the "MY ACCOUNT GOT ♥♥♥♥♥♥" threads so often I pretty much go directly to third gear.

:steammocking: Seems to be common unfortunately, only just started checking out threads in Steam main discuss past week or 2 and you're not wrong.

All good most likely any email like the above will show inconsistencies, hopefully those that get an email like that just really comb it over before falling for it.
