No that's impossible, the email is using my account username which I can pick anything not the actual username that is used to sign/login/password to steam.
Anytime I get an actual real email from Steam I'm presented with my real username login.
-Your email
-Your SteamID (from where they got your profile name).
Have you linked those two pieces of data anywhere else than Steam? Third party sites linked to your profiel?
I'm assuming right you don't have Steamguard through the mobile app and are using mail codes instead?
No and the first time I received the email I went to the steam site via browser and changed/upgraded my password, so there's no way they have access to my account period. And no I'm not using steamguard and yes for email codes, which these fake ones don't have my correct username. I've never had any problems with my account be it being accessed from someone else and still don't.
Good that you recognised it. I think just about everyone needs to see this as a just in case/heads up situation.
If somebody know your login informations, you gave them away. Or you are one of those people that thing using the same profile name and account name is SOMEHOW a good idea.
Obviously, I agree, right on the money.
Pretty much.
I lol'd when I read this part, because people can be so frustrating, like 5-6 years ago, I reported a scam to Nvidia, posted on their forums that I had gotten a well made scam email using all of Nvidia's imagery etc. and it was just a heads up to the community and Nvidia... I was reporting a scam... The majority of the replies were about how dumb I was for falling for it... At no point did I say anything about falling for it, but people remarkably read very little of what they are replying to.
Thanks for the heads up on the potential new scam, I personally haven't gotten this one yet.
All good most likely any email like the above will show inconsistencies, hopefully those that get an email like that just really comb it over before falling for it.
