What are your thoughts/opinions about Steam's use of gamification?
Thought I would post this question as I think that it is an interesting debate/topic to chat about on a Friday night :) Maybe you have strong opinions, sources to backup your say!

WIthout specific examples there's not a lot to 'discuss'. Are you talking about the community, the client, the game steam makes, etc?

I don't see a problem with it. Steam was originally targeted towards gamers, it's primary consumer base is still gamers so it's only logical for them to gamify things in an attempt to push out products and services that appeal to their primary audience.

Sorry, I meant the techniques like the trading cards, achievements, gettins users to vote for what games should be on sale next. Its getting us to use their ser vice more I think, thus wanting to also buy more games.
