Does anyone else eye-roll after seeing so many "retro" style games?
I get it. It was cool and fun, but it has become boated. I really hope more indie games stop with the Atari graphics. At least if they can help it.

Edit: My point isn't that graphics matter, but that they go specifically to a really retro style. Mainly referring to things like Undertale. The almost atari level graphics.

Funny fact: most indie games I have seen dont have retro graphics so thats that.

Not like having ubermegahdonebillionpixels makes a good game.

Good graphics aren't my point. Don't think I meant that lol

Imagine great gameplay in combination with nice graphics. That would be something.

Cause many of those games are user projects done in RPG Maker. While I played some great ones - To The Moon or Greyfox, majority of them is just bland and generic.

But I rather see 8bit - but properly working games as some eyecandy broken/abandoned early access titles.

Dishonored comes to mind. That's without thinking about the rest, there are more.

Yes. Graphics matter to everyone. Its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ trend so games take less effort to make.

A lot of those games you roll your eyes at are a lot of fun. I'd rather have a fun retro 2d type game. Then a game with lots of eye candy but has crappy gameplay

its cuz those games were based on having good gameplay so people make it seem if they use retro than they mustve spent more time actually coding the game

.

You must not actually play many games since RPG maker is extremely limited in what it can do with respect to making games. Its a fine base engine, but you're not making anything like :

Nuclear Throne - Game Maker
Shovel Knight - Custom

Most other games are made in Unity simply because its the most ubiquitous cross platform engine out there.

You obviously have no idea how graphics are made to make that statement.

Its DIFFERENT but to say its 'less effort' is an insult to those artists that create them. That's like saying taking black and white photos is 'less effort' because there are less colors.

Retro pixel style is a good way to go. In case you haven't noticed. That graphic style ages much better than say more realistic 3d. I mean SHovel Knight still looks good . Doom3 however looks dated as hell.

I like graphics, but they don't make a game, gameplay does. I remember playing games that were great and only used up 36k of memory on a ZX Speccy 48K.
Had more to say, but thought to keep it on topic

Those games are fun and all, but I didn't buy a expensive video card to play those games. They are nice for a bit but I'm jaded by graphics these days.
