Can Steam be considered a Social Network?
I have been talking with a friend about this one...

I know steam lacks social network features, but it's the best we got since playstation and xbox aren't that intuitive, you can't really meet people and etc on these places.

Steam however got all those social features (still lacking some) that makes a really good place to make friends where no company will buy and sell your infomation.

So, can steam be considered a social network?

Of course. It's a network over which people socialise.

Absolutely and I love it. Full of wonderful people. Not being sarcastic either. It has the best, most amazing people I have ever met. People you would never talk to in a hundred years.

And then there's the CSGO/TF2 community :x

You're basically saying:

There's the Steam Community

And then there's the Steam Community xD

Technically yes but to be completely honest I made more "Lasting friendships" and "stronger connections" over Xbox Live than I ever did with Steam. I think the Xbox Live Party feature as well as seamless voice chat had a lot to do with it. I met one guy while playing Red Dead Redemption multi-player and he became a bona fide friend. He introduced me to a ton of people too. We don't talk much since I went back to PC gaming. But with Steam the only people on my small friends list that I regularly communicate with are people I know in real life.

its an obvious social network... profiles, chat, interests, voice, and even shared activities...

I open myself with some friends on my steam list sometimes. They are all cool dudes.

I don't have much friends on my psn honestly because I don't play much but steam I have some really good ties.
I agree with Jeff Kaos. It was very easy on Xbox Live to just join someones voice chat party and meet new people, but those kinds of interactions don't happen as much on PC.

Sure Steam has all the fine qualities of a disgusting social network. A giant farming simulator where everyone believes they are so unique and special.
