Game banner
What do you think is the cost to have a banner on release day for a game? It only seems to be AAA that can afford the price as we see Civ today and RE2 recently. It would be beneficial to everyone if a good game gets a headline and recognition. Im sure its just financial but just curious.

A lot of discussions seem to veer from the initial conversation, so just want to be cleat this was just curiosity of the cost of the banner on Steam, nothing more.

Those aren't paid for they are chosen based on the level of interest users show in a game or series.

I generally don't pay attention to the banners, I know how to find what I want and kinda filter out those that I don't, and I can't imagine that the banners are curated to my niche taste.

You and i both find what we want, but there are literally thousands(if not millions) who do not.

So Valve freely advertises popular titles? I find that highly doubtful. And IMO this CIV banner maybe the largest i have ever seen.

then thats on them. They need to follow people who report on things that they want, check in on the tags that are most important to them, etc.

Valve curates the ad banner at the top with what want.

sorry but i'm pretty sure that publishers have to pay to get this "spot".

valve surely won't extra advertise certain games for free, there must be some kind of deal behind this.

There is ZERO paid advertisements ON the Steam store.

If that is true, that is literally another reason gaming, in terms of basic 101 buisness practices, has no clue.

do you have any source for that by any chance?

Sure...

Q. Can I pay for my game to show up to more customers?

A. Nope. You focus on making a compelling, interesting, and unique game, and Steam will work out the best places to feature your game based on customers’ interests, preferences, and feedback.

Thanks for linking, very interesting and confirms what i have always said, the industry is ignorant to basic buisness principles. Of course know your audience, but you should be trying to reach more. Just because X group is popular doesnt mean there are not people wanting something different. And that fact is proven every year.

That was said when PUBG went 1.0. Just something that was not up to your particular tastes.

Or Steam are fully aware of the fact there are way too many games to feature all of them and that allowing paid advertising on Steam will just lead to the same few companies dominating the store page and go against Steams philosophy of remaining neutral by giving every game the same treatment and letting the players decide what they want instead of telling the players what they should want.

Not a bad thought, but how many times does a AAA game release on Steam today?
