What is steamworks common redistributables?
I started to organize my library and i noticed it. Can i delete it?

It is needed for your games. Deleting it will only make it download all the redist files for your games again.

But shouldn't it be listed under "tools" instead of normal game in library which is actually not a game? Also there is a "play" button associated with it which makes no sense. It just updates game redist packages as you mentioned and not a game item.

Not sure why you necroed this but

1) yes its under tools so you just have to hide tools from your library
2) the 'launch' button is simply because its considered an 'app' you can have an app that 'launches' functionally nothing in theory depending on how you define the app in steam

Thanks for clarification. I just remembered the old situation which indeed had caused much frustration before. And I see "Play" button everywhere for Steamworks Common Redistributables "tool" from the screenshots that are posted, also it was treated as "game" by Steam when it first appeared in Steam library. Can you confirm that the associated button for that "tool" is now named as "launch" instead of "play" which should make sense?
