Steam could learn from Elon Musk / Twitter
Excited to see gaming communities eventually shift its way to a more open speech platform that isn't censorship culture. Steam could learn from twitters new shift in speech policies.

Should give it a shot, be surprised how much positive feedback you'll get compared to being a censorship happy! But hey, it's your platform 100% correct. It was just a suggestion, just know I'll drop this account worth some amount in a heartbeat for something that allows me more freedom to talk while playing games, if it ever comes about.

However I hope that steam will be the ones to pioneer this instead keeping its long title as a gaming platform.

Just wanna play my games in a game platform buddy, let your loud opinions about everything for the Tweet, if you like that place so much.
At least half of gaming is inherently a social activity & therefore it becomes susceptible to all of the concerns, controversies, & real-issues (fake issues too) that are inherent to socialization. :seewhatyoudid:

My argument is this: If we continue down the path to more and more restrictions on speech, eventually even statements like the ones few of you are making which I quoted above will be considered harassing someone at some point.
Incorrect. As Tito pointed out, the rules have basically never changed over a decade. You're also forgetting this site is for kids - not just adults - thus rules for civility are in place. As said you're a guest in someone elses house, and the concept of free speech is civilian vs government, you can speak but what you say, how you act can have consequences based upon the rules just like laws of a country you reside in.

Since the idea is that this is a digital store to sell video games, they'd rather have overall civility. Those that have been uncivil especially repeatedly on the forums, have been shown the door.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย ()_T_N_T_)----*:
And when the stick of justice is handed to the "ideal person" that it evolves into, even they might not tolerate the stuff you say freely now. Which could lead to a ban, removal of your account, real consequences.. when you might be thinking to yourself "what the hell is this? I've never been banned for this before"
Forum behavior only has forum consequences unless someone is so abusive enough to receive a community ban, in which they can still have their games & play them, but they have restrictions based upon enough bad actions to result in a community ban.

Valve doesn't really do the whole removing people for merely having opinions bit.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย ()_T_N_T_)----*:
Because it's true, while you're not using profanities it doesn't change the underlying tone of insulting and attacking me and my character when you have no idea who I am, or what I believe, because I have a view point that in essence you think I'm an idiot and that I need to go F myself for. But you do it in a way that articulates that message without vulgarity. Incorporates a larger vocabulary to circumvent the filters in a rude demeanor which in theory could fall under harassment.
There is nothing wrong with people bluntly conveying where an issue truly lies or where a problem truly is. What a user takes out of it or interprets it as, often causes them to believe something else such as what you're coming up with here; you're making something up that is simply not happening. People can correct you or inform you in an overly acceptable way, it does not mean they have some sort of ill-will, thus there is zero way it can be seen as harassment

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย ()_T_N_T_)----*:
It's a word game you play to censor those who don't have a broader vocabulary who would ordaniarily be removed and deleted because they are doing the same thing you're doing just in a blunter fashion. Saying "GO F yourselve MORON" can get you banned, but use a little word play and all of a sudden it becomes acceptable?
Again, how you say something & how you act or react is the difference between acceptable & unacceptable.
Yes, being overly rude and intentionally bluntly insulting is against the rules.
No, writing in a more blunt criticism manner does not get people into trouble when they are observed as being within the rules. Criticism, pointing out flaws & disagreement do not make something any of that.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย ()_T_N_T_)----*:
But unfortunately for you I have made time to present a legitamate example, and have the vocabulary to confront you on this hypocrisy. You claim to want to prevent hate, racism, bigotry? Then stop using hate and bigotry in an underlying subliminal tone towards those who you assume are less educated than yourselves. Because you are creating censorship through word play and allowing yourselves to do the very thing you claim to try to stop.
It's not hate nor bigotry for individuals to present their views, opinions, or facts on a matter in a way that may be more blunt and not to the liking of an OP when addressing a serious flaw in a want or desire.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย ()_T_N_T_)----*:
Either practice what you preach by being civil even when you are intelligently expressing thoughts with a impressive posh word presentation. And you can constantly be wondering what the "next social interaction rule will be when adressing peers". Or you can co-exist with others who say "ef yourself dumb dumb brains" and learn to ignore them. Because truth is the only reason why a vast majority of people are muted, censored for doing the same thing hating, attacking, bigotry you're doing in the forums is they're not doing it in a fashion that impliments a stronger vocabulary.
So you want more freedom like twitter, but now you want to control how people engage & interact with others when within the rules? That is not like what you're wanting in the OP, nor does is it conductive of discussions; it comes across as "discuss how I want only" which is not particularly civil.

โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย ()_T_N_T_)----*:
but I also hate over the top control freaks who can't liven up a little and stop being hypocrites.
Irony.

And I hope this reaches a lot of people who I believe feel the same way, so they know how to communicate that this "2 sets of rules" isn't appropriate, and loosening up the grips on speech even just a little would be the way to combat this bipolar atmosphere that just keeps getting wider and wider.
Just follow the rules, they're really straight forward. It's a site to sell stuff, you're a guest, and there's children utilizing the site. It's easy to understand why a site meant to sell & encourage games, does not like uncivil behavior. Twitter is only really a service to write mostly openly, not to sell products - and I guarantee you almost half of twitter or more frequently displays things not well thought out.

RThe rules are simple.
DOn't be an ASSHAT.
I mean they break it down into sub rules but the general jist is to observe good manners and to be`honest and open to discussion.

The US invented the internet in the 1950s to accommodate their military communication all over the world.

I love how evey statement in that sentence is factually wrong :profgenki:

Yeah, it was actually the 60s, my bad. The point is how far ahead technologically and otherwise the US is than the rest of the world. Who do you think invented the internet LOL?

Actually...other countries have a huge upper hand over US in several departments. Tech is one of them. Social programs is another. We're a giant due to how much we SPEND on our military, not solely from our tech.

No, the US is also the leader in tech, what are you reading? Google, Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, all American. The US military innovates most of the world technology, and yes, invented the internet. I would love to see what you think China has that the US doesn't, seeing as they desperately copy US tech. Name a country that has better tech, and provide proof. Don't even get me started on how advanced the US is in healthcare because of all the money poured into research. "Actually Romania has better tech in..." Come on with the hot takes guys LOL.

What would that have to do with anything? I research a lot, and it's not a secret the US leads in all kinds of technology. Again, what are you reading? What country do you think is ahead? I provided the world leaders in tech, and you just make a lame insult that makes no sense.

How about the fact that the USA hasn't made any of those advances on their own? Oh and Canadian healthcare is LAUGHING at your US healthcare claims
If a mod wants to lock it, go for it. It's obvious about myself that I'm just some uneducated hillbilly moron, who wants an outright asinine idea to be mulled over, especially one that is just so stupid that I don't belong in communities like this.

Because I'm just obviously here to cause hate, bigotry and racism. Hell maybe even the end of the world doomsday speech! And I obviously should not have a voice on the matter because I'm too caveman in my speech and thinking to be here. And I should be burned alive for my atrocities.

Happy Holidays, because saying anything else is an outrage to society and I refuse to be that incentive bigot any longer..

What? The US has made all the advances on their own. Again, Google, Microsoft, the US military, all leaders in world tech. Canada? LOL. Come on now, Canada benefits from all the US healthcare research. There's a reason the US is the richest and most advanced country in the world. Do you pay attention to world news? No, because if you did, you'd realize that Ukraine is beating Russia in a war solely because of advanced US tech. Not Canadian... Canada is the little brother of the US in every way. Sorry, man.

Pft you mean the stuff that's falling apart because they're firing too much get real.....
Being first isn't all gravy.

It means more modern infrastructure in newer places while the USA is having to change over from antiquated junk.

But this is how we become the third world and don't realize it. We just crawl along while everyone starts past us.
This thread has recently turned into nothing but insults from players and is no longer constructive. It has been locked.
