Why was steam guard turned on for my account?
I can't trade anyway, I don't want to.

It was supposed to be off.

So I turn off that option for the new log in....

IT DIDN'T tell me it wanted an email loop for that first!!! I turned that crap off I didn't enable to begin with because I don't want to do email loops and my email computer is effed right now.

So now if I log out I am locked out of my account?

REALLY??????

This is very bad... I never log in anywhere else etc so I never wanted steam guard on. I want to protect my inventory so I was happy to not have any trading at all.... and now this nonsense!!!

Kind of upset here.

Steam guard is on by default for everyone, even making new account.

I see no trade, or vac ban on account, so yes you can trade with others.

Turning it off requires an email loop. I explained that.

IT WAS OFF before the new log in... I was unable to trade due to no 2FA

I guess I will just take this opportunity to say goodbye while I am still logged in.

Too poor for a smart phone... just got beat for 10k on a vehicle and have nothing left to my name but steam and games for my entertainment... end of the rope isn't too far off methinks.

Have a great life.

Are you using a script, or something to cause this loop in the 1st place, or is this the email provider you're using that causing the issue?

Also to trade you need Steam guard enable for more than 15 days, that the requirement.

What are you talking about?

Normally I auto login no email loop required... the new launcher for steam made a change forcing an email loop when you type in your password.

There were options given for that.
The bottom option to turn off steam guard <that should have been off to begin with> with the promise you won't visit blah blah... but no mention of needing an email loop to verify that choice.

So thinking I was just telling it to do what it was supposed to before they changed it and now have to do this email loop I can't do.

I have a hard line, they can call my house just fine but I don't see that option.

Yeah... I guess this is just farewell... I was expecting it sooner or later anyway but everyone just seems to be pushing lately. Ha ha ha.

Well you talk about email loop, which isn't something need to do, let alone a requirement because all you need to get from Steam is an email not an email loop, there no reply back, or any email action need to do when they send you an email, its a link you click from email that it, so if you're doing something via your email settings to cause issue for you not able to get, or view said email, then something you need to figure out what the problem, unless this is email provider you're using causing this issue.

Are you by chance using a throw away email service, where it just give random email, and no account needed to sign up?

Steam doesn't call people.

I guess you are unfamiliar with the new log in system.

It is flat out telling me to go to email and type in some code from there to enable the change.

And I have had the same email since I created the account years ago. Have done loops when needed to change computers etc.

No not new to login at all, when you login this is how it done with Steam guard enable.

1. Enter in Steam login name, and password.
2. It's asking for a 2FA code that is *sent* to your email, you visit your email, and copy the code.
3. You enter the code on the Steam app / Website, and you're in that it.

For changes to account if you want to disable Steam guard view video above.

What part of not being able to do an email loop now isn't getting through to you?

I give up...

Well I hope next time I am forced to restart I can auto login like normal... if not goodbye.

OP i don't think you know what an email loop is because what Steam does isn't a loop. Also who in the world needs a dedicated email computer? You could literally just check your email on whatever you're using to post on here.

Email has always been the most risky and virus pathway.

I personally think anyone who does email on "whatever" or worse yet an important machine is being foolish.

I may be confusing steam guard issues with 2FA

Either way it should have been stated that I would need to get a code from an email they send to make that change. It should have been made clear and I wouldn't have done anything until I got my email situation sorted out once I get a secure machine up for it again.

I just hope by not doing the email code "loop if you will" they don't lock my account up. Just leave it the way it is for now.

But my luck lately ... yeah...

Seriously guys... no need to be snooty about the terminology ... I was pretty clear about what I meant. Your point there was meaningless to the point of the discussion. There was a loop of communication where email was involved... and it needed to be communicated back somehow. That was the issue here.

If you're hosting your own email service that is risky because you're actually downloading all the content whenever email is sent to your device. Online email service don't have this risk as you don't automatically download the attachment content, because for you get the attached content, you have to simply click on the attachment to download it content.

Like I said, if you did something that causing issue, or using a provider that causing the problem, then you need to solve that problem.

Steam guard is 2FA system.

Steam guard which everyone has by default, you get a 2FA code via email like I said before.

There Steam guard mobile app, which is for mobile device that contains own 2FA, this is optional to get, and use, not a requirement.

Terminology is quite important, especially when you're insisting on using terminology that has a clear definition of something entirely different than what you're intending it to mean.

It appears your important machine is your dedicated email computer. It's fine that you've incorporated that strategy as part of your netsec, but you've crippled yourself without also implementing some sort backup option in case you find yourself in this very real scenario.
Stupid question there Sparky....

Why is your email server not able to be accessed?
Even if it is down? You can always reimage the email server.
Or even set it up on a different box. And mirror it.

I think you have an account that doesnt really belong to you. And the email on the account, doesnt belong to you. That is prolly why 2fa is active on it now.

I mean seriously. You are worried about viruses on your main pc, but have a sandboxed dedicated email server? That you never backed up? Never refreshed? And cannot access suddenly? Hmm...

A dedicated email server. Would have access still. Network, serial, etc.

Even Google provides in house, automatic file scans. And does a lot more than the public gets to see. Like checking for malicious ( known ) links. auto-filters spam or reported phishing emails.

Yet here you are complaining about 2fa on the account.
Did you contact Steam Support?
I doubt that you have. Or you wouldnt be here having a stroke.

How much did you pay for the account?
Or did you burn someone in a trade of accounts?
I can see by the rhetoric on your wall.
You didnt know about this til a few hours ago.
Yet had this account allegedly, legit.
Yet cannot access the registered email for the account.

Looping.....is not quite what you think it is.
A loop email, is one they send, that you respond to.
And usually refers to a bugged email. That is constantly cycling to/from.

There are other ways to auth in 2fa. Yet, now you claim you dont even own a cellphone?
Downloading the STEAM APP. Is another way. Other than email.

I think you hijacked someones account, or bought it & burned them.
And cant really access the email that is tied to the account.
Like a scammer, or something.

I mean seriously. Not hard to set up a pop3 / smtp email server. Nor to refresh a dedicated email server. What about the domain tied to the dedicated server? After all, you cant just have an @domainnamehere.com email, without having a registered domain tied to the IP. DNS and all that jazz.

Your story. Doesnt add up.
