Games like Super Meat Boy are just annoying with keyboard & mouse and GTA IV's controls are terrible on mouse and keyboard.
For TPS, I will use a controller.
If it's a platformer I'll usually use the controller as well.
They have to get good at using the pad because there's simply no other option.
Which one is better - pad or keyboard - mainly depends on what you are used to.
If you are used to keyboard then that will feel much more intuitive than playing with a pad.
Personally I prefer a controller because I simply don't like playing games at my desk.
With most PC games I don't have an option, like with strategy games and older games.
I use a 15.6 inch monitor so I sit near the screen whether I use m+k or gamepad.
