L4D2, imo, has a finite story and playthrough.. You can repeat it but you may not want to. Once you finish it, you'll probably move on to another game.
However, considering that when both go on sale, they are around $5 or less each, I don't see why you couldn't get one now at full price, and another one later at sale price.
You also may be someone who feels you can only get the most enjoyment from Garry's mod if you buy more and more Source games. In that case, the costs will add up. Otherwise, I know several people who play with just TF2, and they are still putting in lots of hours having fun.
Or do you perfer casual, sandbox styled funny games. Garry's Mod is a sandbox to just play around in, there's no real goal, but rather just create stuff. If you previously liked Minecraft, etc - go for this.
Much better game.
Yes this is correct. I kept reading the Steam's description for this and that's what I got out of it, that it is some kind of sandbox world game etc. But when I saw friends playing it in multiplayer, there is that sandbox mode part, but also more maps and game types that just let people play other types of games.
For example, one was called Murder or something like that. The people all join and one is randomly chosen to be a murderer, and he is given a knife. His goal is to kill the other players without revealing himself, and the others are supposed to guess who the murderer is. He wins by killing everyone or they win by finding out who he is, and then killing him.
It reminds me of the days of multiplayer Starcraft when your teammate would not click on "Win" because he was preparing to stab you in the back, and he had been planning that all along, but everyone would be saying "it's not me, someone else isn't clicking it" until finally the backstabber guy revealed himself.
Another was where you transform yourself into some object in the game map, and the other team has to find out what you are. The time was limited so there would be a winning team and losing team.
I thought those were kind of interesting map types that never got revealed just by reading the description of the game.
