Why does steam have so many anime shows and J-games?
It seems odd, has anime styled stuff really been this popular for over two decades?
its really just rehashed over and over again but people still love it? I cant turn on steam without being shown eight new anime movies to rent or some perverted high school anime game for 20 bucks. maybe this is because i live in the country or maybe because I clicked a couple of times when it POSSIBLY looked interesting (turned out it was rehashed stuff anyhow), its not bad if thats your thing, im just suprised that its so damn popular, I thought most people more or less grew out of it like I did. maybe the largest audience for games is no longer men in mid to late 30s anymore lol

is because the same reason for so many murder shooting simulators aka call of something, because they sell it,is better have many games for many audiences than a stagnant store with the same game cloned many times.
actually id say it has alot to do with age and maturity. I dont think I can sympathize anymore with highschool kid mentality games such that anime games portrays. Look at nearly every visual novel game - high school love simulator in uniforms that most high school students dont even wear. or Jrpgs where its a kid with a giant sword and a shy magic girl. It seems only young immature people like this stuff anymore. I cant for the life of me find a single adult with a real job and actual money that would claim to enjoy it, unless they are japanese and most often they are not very mature even into old age. I think its just a bunch of developers cashing in on young people and their angst, just like pop music, but for a smaller crowd.

I am a mature 31 year old, with a well paid job and a fiancee. I LOVE anime and manga... especially the cheesy highschool comedy stuff.

People grow older and give up hobbies they love because they are perceived as immature. Wonder why everyone is on anti-depressants all the damn time.
This seems like an odd question coming from someone who has spent over 100 hours watching The Phantom Pain. Mature people outgrew the Metal Gear games in the early '90s. The only people who watch MG games anymore are edgy teens.
Anime games are actually just a niche category. For a fan of VN's such as myself it's actually a bit of a godsend that so many of the games make it to Steam. Being as niche as it is I can imagine there wasn't much incentive for more than just fan translations of the games since there wasn't really a centralized marketpiece for for the titles/a market for Japanese producers to make money on English speaking audiences.

Because Japan has a huge game industry and previously releasing physical editions in the west was far too expensive for smaller companies. Almost all publishing was done by Nintendo and Sony because they have the resources to do so, but they mainly release main-stream products. Steam has made the western PC market accessible to smaller game publishers from this region which introduces more niche products.
Why does steam have so many survival and war games?

It seems odd, has zombie survival stuff really been this popular for over two decades?

In an ideal world, the industry produces in all colous and tastes what gamers demand.

In an not-so ideal world, the industry produces what can be done for the lowest possible cost with a profit margain that will make the comnpany and the shareholders most happy. This is the world we are living in.

So whatever the industry produces, it doesn't say so much about the industry but more about us - the gamers.

If there comes a point where the industry provides 1% of overpriced hyped games and 99% cheap formulatic crap, then congratulations - it's our fault.

And I'm not being sarcastic.

The reason that TV-shows have reached a height of creativity, boldness and production value that is unparalleled in history while computer games are at a point of stagnation is not, that the TV-industry hired all the intelligent people and the gaming industry got all the dumbasses left.

It's just that gamers have become dumbasses playing every crap they get served, while the TV audience is not willing to waste their time unless the product is really good.
