Steam Profanity Filter (talking about this: ♥♥♥♥)
I was wondering if there is a way to diable this, I understand why they have it, but it kinda bug me a bit.
I don't think steam have a option to turn it off, but I knowticed on Discord I was able to extract the actual word in the info from a link my frind posted (you can try it yourself with this topic), so it is possible to disable it yourself some how.

No.

Agreed. It bugs me as some posts become unreadable, all riddled with <Heart>s...

Sure it's possible. You just have to outright by Valve/Steam and then you can do whatever you want to it.

There isnt

And quite frankly most of the stuff they censor IS censored for a reason, such as: dodgy grey market sites, chan sites, link shorteners...

Most of those is just "Edgy" wording. Those silly swears.

That is a shame. IMO, it should be a client-sided option, but who am I to say anything.

they dosn't censor its automadic, no one comes to review anypost and censors words.

like I said I understand there is a reason, but for some it is annoying that it becomes unreadable some times.

Just be able to disable the swearing words filter.
The filter is also used to block potentially dangerous links and websites, not just swear words.

HEARTS AND MINDS

1. Censorship is a governmental tool. It does not apply to actions of corporations. Please stop using the word censorship when you should use FILTERING.

2. A good idea expressed badly seems like a bad idea. If someone is unable to express their thoughts without expletives, chances are their thoughts suck.

3. The filter also eliminates links to dangerous scam sites. Considering how many morons are already falling victim to scammers on Steam, just imagine how many more such victims would there be if www. -click-on-my-scam-site-and-give-me-your-password- .com would work...
It's still the same one filter. You'd disable everything if it was possible.

1. Your right, that is my fault.

2. Again your right.

3. we are only talking about swears, it is posible to have a option to disable those and still block bad links

also, please don't creat fake quotes, I understand what your doing butthats not about this topic.

That's like saying you want to keep your front door locked, but if chosen people want to come in, the door will be magically unlocked for them.

It doesn't matter what you're talking about. The filter is still only one single filter that is used for everything. Until Valve decides to create new, different filters for different things, enabling swear words is simply not happening.

Here's my take on it. If there was a way to disable it, I would have found out about it by now. I've been using Steam for the past seven-ought years now and although I rarely go on community discussions except to troubleshoot a problem with a game or look for a mod of some sort. It does bother me as well to an extent, but there I figure there is a logical explanation as to why they have this enabled.
Steam is huge in term of it's community, with a diverse array of people, gamers alike with different walks of life and different ways of expressing themselves. But you have to remember, this is a public forum on the internet. Although the Steam community is for the most part self-contained it it's region of the internet, it's still a public forum for everyone to access and comment on provided you stay within any set of rules and regulations you agree with on Steam. There isn't always going to be a moderator to look at every profanity, every uncivil controversial term or topic and every break in regulation that can be found on this forum. This is the same problem that's happening with YouTube right now, where their so overwhelmed with the amount of and variety of people just being toxic that they are desperately trying to find a way to clean up the community without upsetting everyone.
Granted, the YouTube community in terms of the comments are notoriously toxic, but that's to be expected with any community where any kid with a wise-ass mouth can grab a tablet or phone and start spewing vulgar remarks about anyone he perceives as a threat in some way, or just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles.
Steam obviously wants to keep their public discussions as civil as possible without being too intrusive. I'm not saying we should be complacent to censorship, but I'm saying we should pay attention to the nuance of their intentions. This is a sight open to just about anyone of all ages, even some children have steam accounts. Steam doesn't want to get sued by some irresponsible parent because the kid says they picked up the word "c*nt" for instance from a discussion on the game Grand Theft Auto V. People do sue companies and corporations for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like that, and nowadays 60% of the time they win. It's stupid, I know. But that's just how it is. I'm not saying it's completely effective either, far from it. If they have access to Steam discussions, it's safe to assume they have access to at least the general internet.
I see this as a precautionary measure to alleviate themselves of some liability in case some dumb parent does try to blame them for something their kid picked up. There could also be any number of reasons, but I like to gravitate towards them just trying to keep it civil. It's not too intrusive, although if you don't have much of an imagination it can interfere with context.
