It's "http://store.steampowered.com" (Steam Shop) and "http://steamcommunity.com" (Steam Community) not "steam.com".
The domain "steam.com" is not owned by Valve.
What's kind of interesting is that someone random has already bought http://steam.game and is offering redirects from the subdomains to Steam store pages; so for example Bethesda could get http://skyrim.steam.game and redirect it to the Skyrim store page.
Man, Valve should just steal that idea.
Hey, did you notice when you hit "steam.community" ? Congratulations!
I remember this page, it was created during or after the ICANN new gTLD program. Verisign was so against new domain name extensions that it invented an explanation to convince users to keep buying ".com". With new domain names, users asked: "by the way: what does ".com" mean?". I'd be interested in knowing exactly when this page was put online actually.
