"Topic by a blocked user" Really?
Why does it work like this exactly? If you've blocked a user, then their threads really ought to be completely hidden, not taking up space on the page.

Honestly, if you are bothered enough by someone that you've decided to block them entirely, then it seems pretty obvious that you no longer wish to read anything they write at all, so why continue to list their threads for the user who blocked them?

It's still a public place. Like any public forum, things still happen regardless of ones dislike for another. It makes it so they know it's a blocked user, and can choose to interact with the user or not.

More information is good. "Topic by a blocked user" is perfect IMO

Until recently blocking only gave the block by a user and you had to click to view. It did not hide their threads. L:east now we can see we've blocked someone and won't accidentally view a thread by someone we've blocked

if you really care you can use scripts like Tampermonkey to hide the block, blank the block or change the text of the block.

Mine says "Spin to Win"

This thread makes literally no sense. LOL.
THis was a good change, not a bad change.

Also, this isn't Twitter, you can't make an echo chamber here.

I feel it's fine as it currently is.

Which you would scroll past their topic and continue on browsing.

I like it. I think the change is very useful.
I now know on certain forums not to bother clicking a thread to see what it's about, becuas eht "topic by a blocked user" ignores any name changes that blocked user may have made, and lets me know that the thread OP is someone who I don't want to deal with. And I can move on.
In the past, if a person I blocked for constant trolling or misinformation or general childishness (just a few examples of why I might block someone) posted a new thread but had changed their profile name- I had no way to identify that OP as someone I didn't care to deal with or hear from.
They're now still free to post their threads, and I am free to take the warning the "topic by blocked user" and scroll on past it, and go on my way without needing eye bleach.

Thanks for that! I needed a good chuckle, and that did it.

It's at least a step in the right direction. Before they wouldn't even be blocked and you could see them just like any other thread. I've seen a few marked up that way for me and it's great not having to read their BS postings one more time. I'm hopeful that Valve takes it one step more and completely hides them but I'll take this for now.

I don't know why you want this place to turn into Twitter or Facebook. THat's not a good thing to want. :P

OP has a point, there's no good reason to have those threads taking up space.
Just hide them completely. If you've blocked someone, you have already come to the conclusion that person has nothing intelligent, insightful or witty to say.
ReBoot Nov 8, 2022 @ 10:23pm
That header, that whole field of "Topic by a blocked users" doesn't take that much screen space. It's more than 0, sure, but nowhere near where it would become a problem.

Consistency: It works the same way blocked comments do.

Mind you may want or need to check a thread or post from a blocked user anyway. If you're not even aware they're there you wouldn't be able to.

Yes, even that annoying person you blocked because you don't want to hear from again may post a game fix, or an important piece of info that may be relevant for you. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Another subject is people who've blocked so many people that a good portion of the forum view becomes a bunch of blocked topics.

Sure there is a good reason, same reason why people click to show posts by blocked users. Some people will want to know what the thread is. It's not always the smartest decision for those users who can't control their behavior, but for others it makes perfect sense
